Impressions of Oasis

We are just home from a back-to-back eastern and then the western caribbean cruise.

Not our first cruise, but our first with RCCL. We too were amazed at how much penny pinching is going on here compared to other cruise lines. Charging $4 for a small cup cake, $3 for some pop corn in the theatre etc. All of these would have been included on the likes of NCL and Princess.

Also the $25 fine for not returning a towel. Really? We had one taken off our sunbed one day and had to argue with the towel station attendant to get it waived. Not what you expect...

Also the pools were massively over-crowded and way above the stated max occupancy on sea days. Getting a sunbed was like trying to win the lottery too.

That said, we LOVED it and would go back to RCCL again.

agree about the popcorn... I found it strange that that's an upcharge. also found it strange people pay for it ;p Felt like bad value to me. I wanted some but couldn't do it.

I have been on Ovation, Independence & just off Oasis. I loved attributes of them all but I have to say I found the bar staff on Oasis the most unfriendly of all of them. I usually always give additional tips however other than the staff in the Pub I felt like we were inconvenienceing them by asking for a drink

I came to read what people’s thoughts were, no reason for anyone to be ugly! I.m glad I read the first post, learn something about thoughts of the ship from it, from others too. If I was going to address anything, it would be to get over the smoking thing! I have found lots who say they don’t smoke sneaking about ships from all price ranges! 99.9 percent of ships floor space is non smoking, it’s never going away.... when about 35% of the ships crews smoke, we’ve had a cig with the Captain on down! I learn lots from everyone’s post, I wish people would dress a little nicer, but it’s their choice! Although I think when they look at their photos later, with money spent, they do to! Just saying! We are all blessed to be able to take such wonderful adventures, the persons Article you don’t like , may be standing next to you on your next cruise, and may be a great new friend!

Her age? Wow, is an 8 year old ship now considered old? Considering that she cost $1.4 billion I wonder if she’s even paid for herself yet.

...

I thought the same :). If memory serves, Oasis was been through one "drydock" already.

Just an FYI.....On the Allure in November, the popcorn for the ice show was free.

If I had to guess, cruises out of Florida are probably disproportionately southerners. From anywhere in Florida we're within a short driving distance to several ports. Incredibly convenient!

When we were on the Allure, the Captain pointed out that there were passengers from 65 countries on board. I don't know how many US states were represented, but I met more people from CA, AZ, TX, and NY that any southern state. Obviously, every cruise is different and that's the great thing about cruises.....meeting different people from all over the world.

Popcorn is so cheap, I did have a problem with it being a cost on Jewel last year. On Allure in March, so my kids and wife (who care more about popcorn than me) will be happy if it is not an extra expense.

Oasis has free popcorn on the boardwalk for the thank you party on Saturday. It is often burnt. Never burnt when you have to pay. 😉

To the OP, I’m not trying to be too critical, it’s just that I see such statements way too often on CC. Considering the capital investment I’d think that cruise lines would like to get at least 25 years of service from a vessel, if not longer.

I’m glad you enjoyed your cruise and thanks for the report.

That was my thought also when I read that. It seemed just a little while ago that the Oasis made its debut and now it is being classified as "an old ship."

Considering the ongoing refurb process on all their fleet over time...not sure why that was even posted by the OP. To each their own, but like others have said...some folks just like to hear themselves complain.

Was just pointing out the composition of people which I found interesting. No judgment intended-

Calling people silly sheeple for choosing to have Johnny Rockets, and calling peoples' tattoos "unfortunate" are most definitely judge-y things to say, even if you don't realize it.

Makes it sound like your fellow passengers weren't up to your standards or something. Maybe not how you intended, just saying comments like that can come off badly.

I'm a non smoker but I could not care less if other people do. I go to the casino knowing that it will have lots of smoke floating around, again, I don't care. If someone doesn't like it they just need to stay away. Having said all that, I do agree that the smoke travels. We did My Time dining and several nights the smoke was pretty heavy at the doors. I will reiterate that the smoke does not bother me. I'm not the type that makes comments as I walk by smokers or wave my hand to try and brush it away. I find that rude. I can, however, see the problem with the people who it does bother. There are no doors at the casino so that smoke is free to travel. Saying 99.9% of the ship is smoke free may be accurate on a map but is not really accurate for the reasons I have mentioned. I can see where the op is coming from with this comment.

This is all JMO and I don't mean to start a smoking debate. Its just a friendly thought.

3) the crowd was an interesting mix. Tons of Brazilians and lots of other international folks. The Americans seemed overwhelmingly white, southern, and midwestern. Lots of unfortunate tattoos. \

Unfortunate tattoos? I guess I'll have to keep my tattoo covered up when I am on the Indy next week. It's a tattoo of my son's footprints on my right arm. Unfortunately he unexpectedly passed away at day care when he was 8 months old. Don't judge someone because they have ink.
