scopewest Posted January 15, 2018 #51 Share Posted January 15, 2018 I had to wear a badge holder at work that I clipped onto my shirt. I brought the holder and reel clip on my cruise, put the card in the holder and the holder in my pocket, and then attached the clip to the pocket. Never fell out of my pocket thanks to the clip, card there when I needed it.
Cruise_More_Often Posted January 16, 2018 #52 Share Posted January 16, 2018 . . . Have to admit I like the look of the rhinestone bling lanyards - they are always eye catching. So those of you who love them, keep it up.I have one of those! On the ship I always use the lanyard. On a port call to San Diego one time, I put my key card in my jeans pocket. When I returned to the ship, no key card. That's the last time I put one in my pocket.

Sea girl 23 Posted January 16, 2018 #56 Share Posted January 16, 2018 Yeah, they never make women's jean pockets deep enough. The cards are pretty sturdy but..give one wrong move it might not be a good thing.I'll stick with a lanyard, thanks.
sapper1 Posted January 16, 2018 #57 Share Posted January 16, 2018 My view is that those folks who sport their cards on a lanyard are into something where I don't want to mention here. My card goes in my pocket. Just like my pen and lip gloss and a couple of dollars for those who deserve it. Jim I use a lanyard but for the world of me, I can’t think of what nefarious activity I might be into. It is just so convenient during the day when I often don’t have a pocket. On my upcoming cruise I will have to be on the lookout for people giving me the evil eye because they suspect I am into something that is so evil it can’t be mentioned. In the evening I either use a small purse or let my husband put it in his pocket. Those who deserve it receive an envelope at the end of the cruise. Djptcp Posted January 16, 2018 #58 Share Posted January 16, 2018 I bring my own lanyards from ones I receive on Carnival cruises and get a hole punched in my card in the casino the first night. I hook the lanyard to my purse when I'm in the casino (which is all the time it's open) so I won't leave my card in a slot machine when I move to another one. I would not wear it around my neck. DH carries his in his shirt or pants pocket if he doesn't have his wallet with him on board the ship.

DaveOKC Posted January 16, 2018 #60 Share Posted January 16, 2018 Pocket if on the ship, wallet if onshore. Easy to replace if you lose it on ship, but a bit more of a problem is you are trying to get into the port area (in some ports) without it. alwaysfrantic Posted January 16, 2018 #61 Share Posted January 16, 2018 I put it in my pocket if I have a pocket. I carry a little wristlet with my phone in it I don't have a pocket and put it in there. I had holes punched for my kids when they were little. Moriah Posted January 16, 2018 #62 Share Posted January 16, 2018 I always use a lanyard. First thing I do is get my card punched in the Neptune Lounge or at the Front Desk. They usually have some blingy lanyards in the gift shops - very pretty - so I now have a few I can choose from. This keeps my card away from my phone. I do carry my phone around as well in a little pouch or purse but when I would stick my card in there, I invariably ended up with hassles when the card would malfunction because of proximity to the phone. The lanyard solves that problem and when I don't need my phone (read: camera) I can just step out of the cabin with hands free, lanyard only. Sea girl 23 Posted January 16, 2018 #63 Share Posted January 16, 2018 Not sure why some find lanyards so offensive(OK maybe overstating it a little but maybe not?) To each his/her own.

Despegue Posted January 17, 2018 #67 Share Posted January 17, 2018 Just a quick warning to those Lanyard fans... If you leave the ship on a shore excursion, having your cruise ID card visibly hanging with a lanyard will immediately identify you as a perfect “ American Cruise ship “ pickpocket victim in some destinations. Please please please do not parade around with your cruisecard hanging when visiting ashore... I fully understand the ease of wearing your card with a lanyard though onboard. same goes for fannypacks by the way. They are an open invitation to be pickpocketed although people wear them to avoid such occurences.

Fair point. The best solution is to put it under ones' shirt(which I suggested earlier when someone mentioned it potentially falling in their food)

Rare Copper10-8 Posted January 17, 2018 #70 Share Posted January 17, 2018 Lanyard! Scanning works fine through the plastic. You'd be amazed how many times you see fellow pax at the gangway, turning purses and pockets inside out in an attempt to find that ship I.D. card

tv24 Posted January 17, 2018 #72 Share Posted January 17, 2018 I have several nice leather wallets that I have picked up on upscale experiences. One from Azamara works well. I throw them into my carry on and fish them out when my cruise line does not provide me with a new one that works well. The leather wallet has room for my cruise ID card as well as another pocket for something else, credit card, sone cash, receipts, etc.
wales4ever Posted January 17, 2018 #73 Share Posted January 17, 2018 When I go shopping, I don't carry my credit card on a piece of string around my neck for everyone to see. Why would I do the same on a ship?
