Cruising With Little Ones

Difficult? No more so than any other trip or vacation would be with that age children. Most cruise lines have children's programs which would apply to the 4 year old, and most have babysitting services which, depending on individual cruise line policies, may be able to assist with the 8-9 month old.

But what you need to confirm with the cruise line you are considering is most lines specify that the minimum age to sail is 6 months at time of sailing, which you would be OK with. But if the itinerary you are considering has more than 2 consecutive sea days, the minimum age to sail is 12 months. I would talk with your travel agent or the cruise line to confirm their policies.

How difficult is it to cruise with toddlers and infants?

Specifically, a 4 yr old and an 8-9 month old.

Choose a ship carefully...one that offer's a kids club and also a nursery...For us that's RCI.

You can do this and plenty of people do but I hope it will be at least two of you there. Otherwise it can be way too much for one person.

Sometimes even grand parents come along to help.

In the end it depends how comfortable you are doing this. If you are comfortable going away for a few days on a land vacation such as flying somewhere and staying for a few days in a hotel then you should be fie on a cruise ship.

As mentioned find a cruise line that has a children's program for the 4 year old and in general is children friendly. RCI, Carnival and NCL come to mind.

The 4 year old will enjoy the kid's club....unless there is a "nursery" onboard (and there aren't nurseries on all ships), you will be taking care of the baby, just like at home!

You will need to bring ALL the baby stuff you'll need, as the ship doesn't sell either diapers, wipes, or pediatric medications...so bring meds for stuffy nose, earache, teething, fever, tummy issues....etc. Ask your pediatrician, what you should use, if you don't know. Unless you're in a suite with a tub, all cabins have showers, so you may want to bring a blow up tub for bathing a baby.

Thank you for all the responses.

We aren't necessarily interested in a nursery. We don't mind having her with us at all times. She's an excellent baby.

She'll have both parents and a set of grandparents with her.

We were more concerned with what it would be like taking her off the ship at each port.

We will be sailing Carnival and have 3 stops.

I will check the family boards as suggested. Thank you so much for your help!
