No more WOW on Oasis

I was on the same sailing and agree on most. The fixtures, furniture and carpet were all very worn and need to be replaced.

Cleanliness was pretty good. Our sheets weren’t changed during the week. -usually not a big deal because I only change sheets once a week at home. I believe when we were on NCL they were changed every other day.

Oh and I noticed the toe nail clippings on the balcony too! What’s up with that !?

Still had an awesome time!!

Strike two. I love CATS. Great songs, great costumes, great dancing. What's not to love.

Unfortunately, most of the performances week of Jan 28 were cancelled due to rough seas. I only got to go on Sunday night.

And that, is exactly one of the pluses. 😉

Casino is always there if you start experiencing withdrawl

MSC has 30 minute shows if that is more to your liking

Not sure what you mean by strike 2? Was asking if you enjoyed cats...opinions cant be wrong.

Ya not sure what I missed seeing it was one of the longest running Broadway shows, but I guess we just didn't get it.

The cast definately was talented....mind you at least half the theatre cleared out at intermission.

Come fly with me had some pretty bad singing in it imo.

For us the headliner tony Hillman and the comedians were great.

I would prefer RC put the big show budget towards a good meal in the dining room/ windjammer. Even if the show is good how many times do you want to see it? If I sailed oasis again I would prefer new entertainment then a show I have already watched.

Our average meal time was 2 hours in the dining room....a few years ago it was around an hour to 1.5 hours....two hours is too long with kids.

At least we stayed to 1st intermission and didn’t leave in the middle of a set. You have a significant cruise history on Oasis. Just how many times would you say you sat through the entire show?

4-5. First time I had to leave at intermission because Laura had something else planned. I don't do that anymore. 😉

I find the experience to be enhanced if you sit on the aisle in the lower section. The performers interact with you several times.

Not a fan of Tony Hilman. The comics are hit or miss. Better to see them in the club vs the theater or Studio B.

The reality of the Broadway shows is they are to expensive to move around. So you are going to see them again if you cruise a lot.

Full disclosure, we tend to only eat in MDR once a cruise and don't have to wait. Also not a fan of WJ, to many other choices.

The life of a Pinnacle must be boring to sit through Cats 4-5 times.

We do a Excursions at most every port and often exhausted upon return to the ship.

So you don't eat in main dining room or windjammer?

most of my critique was about the decline in food quality and service in wj and dining room that you disagreed with.

I guess by other options you mean Chops and 150.

Not a lot of people are into Broadway shows like Cats.. Hence you will get people leaving during the intermission, let alone staying for the whole thing. Only those who love Cats will stay for the entire duration regardless how many times you cruised on Oasis.

I agree that the Broadway show concept should either be condensed or remove completely. Put up some RCL original 45 min shows like what they do on their other ships. There's a lot of other activities and drinks that can be done in 2hrs.

Cheaper than watching money disappear in the smoke filled casino.

Live theater is very enjoyable.

Mama Mia will likely last just as long and it's very popular.

I never disagreed with anything other than your ridiculous claim that the steward took care of 30 cabins. Roll the tape.

We dine at Park Cafe, Wipe out cafe, and Sorrento instead of WJ. Dinner is typically in CK. Do breakfast and lunch there as well. Used to do JR for breakfast. CK is better.

Dining at CP150 next week on Allure. It's Laura's birthday, she likes the Black Cod.

Don't really do Chops anymore since CK filet is very good and N/C.

Izumi is very good, try and score a discount from the roving waiters in WJ.

Oasis WJ is small for a ship that size since there are half a dozen free venues open during typical WJ hours.

John&LaLa hello,

150 Central Park is our most favorite specialty restaurant on the Oasis class ships. We purchase the Ultimate Dining Package and always have included Chops for one evening and Giovanni's another evening and agree Chops is nothing more than an elevated Longhorn or Outback but we find ourselves going to CP150 for 5 nights during our week long cruise as we feel that is the best service and food overall, your going to love it, and yes, the Black Cod is excellent. Now you got me hungry lol.

I wasn't aware you had to validate someone's posts and pretend you agree with everything anyone says? Good to know.

Is it acceptable that mentally I have a Kate Gosselin level* on bad reviews? Just checking to see if that is still allowed.

As a sidebar, I bet Bella would hate Cats.

We've been on Oasis 3x now (plus Harmony once) and haven't had bad service as the rule. Everything hasn't been perfect (I've reviewed at least two of them, check the threads I've started) but mostly positive.

* when a review goes from just telling the story of your trip (and telling the truth... be it good or bad or even ugly) to just nitpicking about the weakest stuff, first world problems, and whining... there is this weird threshold for me where the mental picture of Kate Gosselin (in her super short hair with the long bangs phase) pops into my brain and I read the rest of the review in her "I need to speak to your manager right now" voice.

The main issues I have always found with the bigger ships is their size causes the issues.

Could I believe the steward had 30 cabins? Yes - if they were solo or 2 person cabins only. No - if they had a mix. Every year I sail, seems our room steward has more rooms.

The more people you put on a ship, the faster the deterioration of the carpets, etc. are going to take place. RC should plan accordingly for more dry docks of the larger ships compared to the smaller ones.

The MDR - I like it... I like having the same servers each evening - with my beverages waiting when I sit down - but I also show them the same respect if I am going to be late that I know what I want to eat before I even sit down - which helps them stay on schedule. On the large ships - they don't call their "route 95" that for nothing - the ability to get from one end to the other - quickly - is impossible. The casino bar didn't have a chardonnay wine in their area - took the bartender 20 minutes to go get one.... amazing.

So, when I travel the large ships, I pack my patience, and remember how "large" the place is, and just try to enjoy the ride.

Love to cruise... wish I could do it more often.

Hi, I was on this same cruise and loved it! It was my favorite cruise, although I think after every cruise it was my best cruise. The ship is phenomenal and service is top notch. The food in the specialty restaurants was delicious; but so was the food in the main dining room. How could someone not be over the top happy on a cruise? Is it me? Something wrong with me?

From what I've noticed, the cruisers that are unsatisfied are the "veteran" cruisers who think they should continue to receive top notch service even though, as years go by, cruise fares go down in price. You get what you pay for.

And of course you also have the people that generally do have negative experiences but there are so many people and moving parts on a ship that I find it impossible for someone to be unhappy with EVERYTHING, which you will actually read about on these forums. I think these are the type of people that are impossible to satisfy.

Or they are people that had a different experience.

You get what you pay for is true. RC has decided to go with a high capacity (flood the market with staterooms) low yield ( charge less per stateroom) market strategy.

The result...you guessed it.

Workers doing more then they use to (more cabins per stateroom attendant)

More tables to cover per server.

The result= less service

Dining room= lower quality food . Want a descrnt meal under 2 hours....fork over $300 for your family of 6.

So when someone gives a review and says hey 5 years ago the service was better and food was higher quality it's a summary of their experience relative to what they have experienced before on the same ship.

Doesn't mean they are unhappy people or the cruise wasn't worthwhile they are just sharing their experience.

There is no way you could look at the carpets on the oasis right now and say wow this ship is so clean.

RC is the new Carnival, which is fine just realise that is the product you are buying in 2018 isn't the same product as 2013.

I wasn't trying to discredit anything you were saying, I agree with you. I guess my point was that I find it hard to believe that one person could be on the ship and be satisfied with every crew member and experience they encounter and then there's another person on the same ship that is unsatisfied with every experience and crew member. But, so many things come into play. Obviously, some people might be able to chalk it up to bad crew members, while others might just have different expectations.

I wholeheartedly agree with you that RC is the new Carnival. As is NCL. They each excel in their own areas, but RC, Carnival and NCL are THE definition of budget cruise lines. There are Royal cruisers that love to think they are somehow above Carnival, but they aren't.

I should also add that while the ship appeared clean to me, I admit I'm probably not the best person to ask about the condition of the carpet. Unless it's really bad, that's not something I usually notice. But given the age of the ship, it wouldn't surprise me if it was worn.
