Ma Bell Posted March 12, 2018 #51 Share Posted March 12, 2018 Why is it that only men seem to find rest room attendants creepy? My husband tells me he thinks it's really gross the way many men don't wash their hands after being there. Maybe having the attendant stationed there interrupts their normal behavior and makes them feel obligated to wash. I do frequently tip the attendants. Would you want their job? varoo Posted March 12, 2018 #52 Share Posted March 12, 2018 I have never seen an attendant stationed in a 'restroom' on a cruise ship. Is this common on Celebrity ships? It is during peak times when a restroom gets heavy traffic, such as theater restrooms after a performance, or dining room restrooms at meal times. We really appreciate how spotlessly clean they keep those public restrooms.

Maybe women don't mind so much because they always have the privacy of the cubicle. Having some guy wander around cleaning while you are using a urinal can be a bit distracting. excitedofharpenden Posted March 12, 2018 #54 Share Posted March 12, 2018 A ridiculous statement. It actually makes me think of all the people that work relentlessly and are never recognized. You must be having a slow Sunday reading the posts. Find something else to do. I made it because I felt it was a rhetorical question made on a Sunday to stir up another tipping debate. Which it has. I think most people understand how hard many people on a ship work. I certainly do. My own tipping policy however is my business. I don't feel the need to justify or prove myself on the boards of Cruise Critic. I keep it to myself. Phil
dkjretired Posted March 12, 2018 #55 Share Posted March 12, 2018 It is it standard practice across the world. Why? Annie It usually is when you're at a land based casino....Also seen it at higher end wedding venues...
anniegb Posted March 12, 2018 #56 Share Posted March 12, 2018 (edited) It usually is when you're at a land based casino....Also seen it at higher end wedding venues... i don't visit casinos and I have never ever seen it at any wedding venue. Probably another US habit that is creeping across the world. I have seen it when I visited the US Tennis Open but I have not seen it at Wimbledon, Roland Garros or any golf tournament. Annie PS Maybe time to adopt the Japanese attitude towards tipping?? Edited March 12, 2018 by anniegb
Esprit Posted March 12, 2018 #57 Share Posted March 12, 2018 I offered a tip to the Captain once. He was alone in the elevator and kindly held the doors open for me and my wife to enter. He then asked for our floor number and pressed the button. Lastly he beckoned my wife out of the elevator first. I thought that deserved a dollar, but he graciously declined. rlmorrow13 Posted March 12, 2018 #58 Share Posted March 12, 2018 On our Silhouette TA there was an attendant in the ladies room just outside of Liminae. She had the voice of an angel and would sing as she tidied up. On the last evening I made a visit to tip her and get her name so I could mention it on the guest comments. She was not there but I've often wondered if she still works for X. On our Summit cruise in February of 2017, there was an attendant servicing the ladies room near the Blu restaurant who was always pleasant and quite friendly, consistently responding "my pleasure" with conviction. She also sang beautifully while she was tidying. Her cheerful demeanor while providing a sanitary restroom experience inspired me to provide her a tip, admittedly the first time I had ever acknowledged a ladies room attendant on a cruise ship in this manner. I provided recognition of her service on both an onboard comment card and the post cruise survey. I have no doubt that I would be unable to fulfill her duties with the same constant cheerful disposition she displayed. (And I feel compelled to mention that my singing is absolutely dreadful, lol!) I was disappointed not to find her servicing the Blu ladies restroom when we sailed Summit again last September. Perhaps she has moved to the Silhouette. Pavovsky Posted March 12, 2018 #61 Share Posted March 12, 2018 (edited) I recall being in Italy many years ago where the price for the toilet was determined by the proposed intervention. Is this how the tips should work? Sent from my iPhone using Forums Edited March 12, 2018 by Pavovsky
CEOofVacation Posted March 12, 2018 #62 Share Posted March 12, 2018 Let me ask you how many pounds of rice can they buy with your thank you notes to feed the hunger families on the other side of globe? This is the most offensive post in this thread. So you are rich, and everyone working as cleaners on the cruise ships are poor back home "on the other side of the globe" where families struggle to put food on the table? There was an especially nice and attentive attendant on a cruise my daughter and I took and we saw her almost every evening. Since it was a two week cruise we got to know her well. We gave her a very nice tip and recommended her for a promotion. The next time I saw her on a cruise she had been promoted to bartender. We remain Facebook friends today. OCruisers Posted March 14, 2018 #65 Share Posted March 14, 2018 On Celebrity cruises we've found the "ladies room" restroom attendants to be very good and so worth tipping. :)(y)
Muushka Posted March 14, 2018 #66 Share Posted March 14, 2018 We are pretty loyal to X but strayed last month on RCI Oasis. No cloth towels in the ladies room and no sweet attendant. What a travesty! Seriously, I was surprised at the difference between the 2 cruise lines when it comes to this issue (among many others). I have tipped once. It was over Christmas and I gave her a candy cane with a $10 bill attached. She was so pleased and so sweet, it reminds me that I need to do that more often. riclop Posted March 14, 2018 #67 Share Posted March 14, 2018 Are we supposed to tip that person for opening the door or handing us a towel? It is common practice on land and I wonder if anyone does it on board? 🤔 Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅 Not really.
