Lottacruises Posted April 15, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2018 More convenient to do beforehand so you are not using vacation time for that. It takes just a minute to call while on the ship, but if they don't deliver and you have to call back...More time wasted.
cb at sea Posted April 15, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 15, 2018 No advantage....you'll still be paying for water (in a plastic bottle) that is free and available everywhere.

Organized Chaos Posted April 15, 2018 #5 Share Posted April 15, 2018 If you pre-purchase from the online Fun Shops, it’s $4.50. If you wait to order it on board, they also add a 15% gratuity.

ATL_Miami_Cruiser Posted April 15, 2018 #7 Share Posted April 15, 2018 It's better to preorder online. On one cruise last year I forgot to preorder and immediately after boarding I called room service and the person said they had run out of water and "hoped" to have more in the evening. They ended up getting more around 7pm that night.
Motegi Posted April 15, 2018 #8 Share Posted April 15, 2018 If you preorder it will probably be in the room when you get there. If you order after you get on board there will be a delay.
ParrotRob Posted April 15, 2018 #9 Share Posted April 15, 2018 The gratuity is only 68 cents, hardly a decision-maker. The biggest advantage is probably having it there when you board as opposed to waiting for it. In case you're new to this and not aware, the smart alecks telling you you're paying for something that's free and readily available are referring to water in general, not bottled water. That's NOT free and readily available. Don't let them fool you.
Purvis1231 Posted April 15, 2018 #10 Share Posted April 15, 2018 We have found the 'free" water has a bad taste so we always get bottled water.

tidecat Posted April 15, 2018 #12 Share Posted April 15, 2018 It was nice to have available on arrival, especially if your room has a refrigerator, er, minibar - in that you can keep it as cold as you want.
dmdiver Posted April 15, 2018 #13 Share Posted April 15, 2018 We preorder so it is in the room upon arrival. I have no problem with the water on the ship, but when I go into port for snorkeling/diving etc., I like to have a bottle that is disposable. That way if it gets lost, I'm not going to have to replace a water bottle when I get back home. Besides, I don't always pack my own water bottle or other refillable cup - gotta save room in my luggage for that extra swimsuit!

peyote2004 Posted April 15, 2018 #15 Share Posted April 15, 2018 If you purchase the cheers package, you can get your bottled water at no extra charge with it. If not, I'd pre-order for the convenience of having it when you arrive.
Organized Chaos Posted April 15, 2018 #16 Share Posted April 15, 2018 The gratuity is only 68 cents, hardly a decision-maker. Enough of a decision maker for the OP (post #6). But I'll agree, having it ready is also nice.
evandbob Posted April 15, 2018 #17 Share Posted April 15, 2018 I prefer having the water in my cabin when I enter it around 11:30AM or so. I can open a bottle as I unpack before I head to lunch. Otherwise, at some point I will have to phone room service, order, then wait for its arrival. And there's none available when I priority board. Kurt Cobain Posted April 15, 2018 #18 Share Posted April 15, 2018 Pre order is our preference for water and soda. We use it mostly on port days to carry off with us it is all around cheaper.

Wow, I'd be very careful about doing that, particularly if you were out drinking from those bottles in the sun and/or not washing them out thoroughly. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/reuse-plastic-bottles/
CallistaSkye Posted April 16, 2018 #21 Share Posted April 16, 2018 Wow, I'd be very careful about doing that, particularly if you were out drinking from those bottles in the sun and/or not washing them out thoroughly. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/reuse-plastic-bottles/ That article you linked to clearly states that reusing water bottles is totally fine, and that it's not been proven about the chemicals leaching due to heat. I hardly think someone using a water bottle a couple times on a cruise is anything to fear monger over. pre-ordering is nice because it is nice to have the items in your room waiting. Plus you can just grab a bottle of water to take off ship with you. We did not have any issues with the tap water available on the ship, but I grew up drinking well water, so to me it tasted fine. We drink A LOT of water, especially with Cheers, and don't want to have to remember to grab extras to bring back to the room for night/early AM. Donh44 Posted April 16, 2018 #24 Share Posted April 16, 2018 Any advantage to preordering water ahead of time vs waiting to order from room service once on board? It will be in your cabin when you arrive as opposed to ordering it when you board and have to wait for it. That way you can put it in your refrig right away.
