I don't understand this whole "suite class, private elevator, private pool" thing.

How much is a GS and up? And anyone spends that much money to be confined in defined spaces where you feel you need to stay because you payed for it? Great marketing scheme actually to free up more public space all over the ship as they add more and more cabins during dry docks.

Why not spend that exact same amount of money (or less) on a luxury line and have an entire ship that is equal to and better than Concierge or suite class areas of RCL?

Naturally, these guest have complete access to the entire ship rather than simply this exclusive area. In NCL's case their Haven area IS a nice touch and many people are more than willing to pay slightly more for a bit more exclusivity. Think of it as first class for the sea. Also, NCL has no problem AT ALL of selling out their Haven areas months in advance of each sailing. Essentially, RCI is playing "CATCH UP" in this case. Just think of the all the complaints about people hogging the deck chairs and crowded pool areas on sea days and realize that the exclusive area will have PLENTY of space and deck chairs. Many people would pay for that alone and some are even mad that they can't access the Haven areas simply because of those things

I think I might just play the Power Ball with such nice things being said. Thank you so much.

Don’t ask others, many are not fond of me. Lol

I read the other thread. It does seem some are bothered by more Suite perks. I thought the Suite Elevator and pool was awesome.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite on NCL in the Haven.

Perks that we used:

- Private restaurant - We have breakfast here every morning. We were seated instantly every day, except I think once we waited maybe 5 minutes. They had a small buffet with pastries and fruit and cereal and a few other items, and then made to order breakfast. This was a great way to start the day without the chaos of the main buffet! We did not use this for dinner, as we preferred the main dining room, which had some live music, shows, etc and a less "fancy" menu. We have kids. I believe we used this once for lunch, but we were often either on land (port days) or out doing activities, so used the buffet and I think once we used the main dining room.

- Private Deck - This was great, as the main pool areas were a zoo. Having kids, they often wanted to go on the waterslides, etc and weren't old enough to go off on their own without us in the immediate vicinity, so we spent some time there too. But it was nice to be able to sit in the suite only deck for some peace and quiet and much less crowds with more comfortable chairs when the kids were in the kids club. I only used the pool once or twice and just to dip in and cool off. But we did use the hot tubs in the evening a few times. My kids were old enough to know better than to disturb others. They were told if they were in a hot tub and an adult wanted to use it to get out and let the adult use it. And the pool was just for swimming laps, or dipping in to cool off. No splashing, cannonballs, etc. There were some people with kids who were quite loud, squealing, chasing each other around, etc, but the lower deck was quite small but upper deck was quite large, so it was easy to find a quiet area away from there.

- Concierge - We are pretty self sufficient, so didn't need to use this service. We booked our own meals, shows, etc ahead of time.

- Butler - I imagine this is similar to the Genie. He did bring us snacks every afternoon. The first couple of days he brought us crazy things that were just going to waste as we are not into sushi or things like that. We told him if he could bring us chocolate covered strawberries and a few cookies each afternoon that would be great. He did, and it was perfect. Usually just 1-2 strawberries and 1 cookie per person. Enough to tide us over without ruining our dinner. That is all we used him for. We didn't dine in suite, order room service, or anything else.

Perks that we didn't use

- Private lounge - We don't drink and didn't get any drinks package. We also aren't one to hang around inside at a bar/lounge.

- Express walkoff - Wish we'd used this. My husband thought it 'wouldn't be that bad' and we should just do it ourselves, as we had a late flight and no rush. Wish we'd used this service lol.

- Private seating area - On the NCL Getaway, there were always tons of empty seats, so we didn't need to use this service. We did get front seats for the magic show though, that cost extra (the show did).

Now, we are going on RCL Oasis in August, and I am definitely going to miss the suite pool area. I know there is a private sundeck, which is nice, but the private hot tubs were great at night, and laying out in the pool area and needing to cool off will be annoying to have to go find a pool to dip in.

I don't think we need a private elevator, we try to take the stairs anyways while on vacation.

We won't have a Genie, but I don't think we'll miss that, as we really didn't use the butler.

Mostly, we just prefer the bigger suites/rooms, and anything else we get is a bonus. The private restaurant is nice, and the free bottled water in the lounge is a perk, last time though, we brought on a $3 case of water, lol, so I guess technically not that huge a perk.

I do think RCL should add a hot tub though, to their suite decks and a small pool to cool off in.

What was the price point, though.

I did a quick study on this on a different (and ugly) thread a few months ago... took several at random sailings next March on Oasis compared to Oceania next March and challenged those who were mega complainers/whiners/argumentative to do the same .... the per diem on Oceania was only slightly more... BUT only if you add the drink package. I've done several other sailings at random at different times of the year and there are some that per diem Oceania is less expensive than Royal. Really opened my eyes. I also posted valid comparisons of interiors vs. GS for example.... interiors are soooo much cheaper on RCL than Oceania, however suite class (ie. JS, GS, etc) Oceania competes very well.

Anyone can check this, just pull up your favorite TA site and a calculator. Yet no one does and everyone argues against it. I finally did... I was shocked.

I understand... well said. However your first sentence totally misses my entire point... the general mentality of many (not all, just some, ok?) is to confine themselves to an area because it's what they paid for, what they "deserve", or some other human psychological reason. Case in point... the hundreds (maybe thousands??) of Diamond Lounge and Concierge Lounge threads posted on CC. Why is it imperative to jam yourself with 50 other cruisers in one confined area? It's absolutely imperative to many on this forum to do just that. What would happen if 40 or 50 PNS and D+ ended up sitting in the Schooner Bar everyday instead? Would there not be as many "like minded" cruisers there to enjoy company with?

It doesn't matter what I say anyway, obviously this is a welcome thing to many posting here on this thread.

I'm questioning your actual first hand experience with this. Having sailed on Oasis once and Liberty 4 times now, the SL was NEVER crowded. We never felt confined. We had beautiful window views, were able to have relaxed conversations with our friends, were able to meet a few friendly new people and just have an hour or so of quiet relaxation as opposed to the hustle and bustle of the various public lounges. There was no jamming involved.

It's a lovely perk that appeals to some. Just like some people are attracted to inside cabins because they are only in the room to shower and sleep, I don't judge what their priorities are. Good on them for making the choice that is best for them.

Considering how ridiculously crowded the pool are on Oasis, I'd be very interested in a small pool for suite dwellers.

No need to question, I have zero experience with the SL. Expand my signature, easy to see I haven't sailed a ship with the SL. My comment, and you can look back and quote it, was as an example of the many CL and DL crowding threads as far as human mentality by some. From your 5 sailing SL experience that is actually great news in my opinion as to me this shows that the "herding" mentality for those in suites maybe is different than the CL and DL?

I'll go further to say, and you can prove it in my Jewel b2b review written last fall, that I agree with you in that I enjoyed the CL more so in the Med as there were few D+/PNs on board and we enjoyed the very empty CL more than normal, gravitating to it per se for better bar service and peace/quiet. On the normal non-SL ships, unless I'm sailing with friends, I'm in for one drink and right out again, dinner/shows/trivia/etc...

Now where are all the Oasis Class fans who will come on this thread to brow beat you with your "Oasis crowded pool" comment?

Thanks Hoopster - and glad you took my post in the spirit it was meant. I agree with you that the SL is a different environment than a DL and even the few surviving Cl's left. We stopped going to DL's awhile back - as you say, the crowds were too much. I'm with you - seldom are we in the SL longer than 90 minutes if that.

As for the Oasis pool, I freely admit I base that on exactly one sailing. Although we had a good time on Oasis and we would be open to going back on that class again, we far prefer Freedom class for a variety of reasons. :)

No worries wgh... we all have to be kinder/respectful/thoughtful and just simply more Bob-like... HELPFUL ... on this forum. This place has become a joke to me recently. I've been lurking a lot, don't wish to contribute much anymore.

Both my Oasis and Harmony sailings the pool decks were awfully crowded and not enjoyable... and I don't mean just lots of people in chairs... I mean loungers pulled around and strewn everywhere in every direction. You're not alone in that opinion. I've always been a Voyager Class fan.... with Quantum so very close behind... and the last couple of years finding myself going backwards and surprisingly elevating Radiance Class up the fave list.

For some of us it has little to do with psychology or our insecurities, or that we feel we earned it or paid for it. Maybe those things are a factor for some. . Yes the Diamond Lounge is crowded before dinner and instead you can use drink vouchers at any bar. Why jam in? There are a few reasons we like to go to the DL. First we do always meet people that have similar enthusiasm and experience for cruising. Like-minded as you say. You might or might not meet them randomly at other bars like the Schooner. Some people we have met in the DL have continued to be friends for many years. Second the hot and cold appetizers are pretty damn good! Also you can time the DL around dinner seatings and go in there when less crowded.

youtube MSC Yacht Club....

currently the best buy at sea.

Sounds like that is the way of the future for new large ships. The experience of a smaller ship within a ship.

That way you can also enjoy larger production shows, casino, etc.

Hope they include all beverages like MSC.

Yeah is most likely a much better option.....if you want that!

Wonder if the "special area" on Spectrum has special "spit corners"

Have you actually seen spitting passengers?
