Smoke free casinos - how do you find out in advance?

Recommended Posts

Not long back from a cruise on Navigator of the Seas to and from Southampton.

Having resigned ourselves to avoiding the casino and anywhere near it, we were delightfully surprised to discover on boarding that the casino was smoke free for our voyage, and that the only indoor smoking venue was the connoisseur club.

There had been no notification beforehand, and the useful information sheet given on boarding didn't even agree with what appeared in the Compass.

We have come back with a very favourable impression of RCCL but before booking another cruise with them, I need to be assured that there will be a similarly pleasant experience on board their other ships.

Having contacted the cruise line beforehand to confirm which side smoking was allowed on the promenade deck, and being told the opposite of what we found on board, I am not confident that I will be given correct information.

Any suggestions from anyone on here as to how to find out what is going on?

Until and unless RC changes their fleetwide smoking policy, this is the kind of thing that can vary ship to ship.

All we know now is that cruises that originate out of the UK or Australia have been reported to prohibit smoking in the casino.

I knew about Australia but I had no idea about the U.K.

I believe that the casino on the Empress is smoke-free.

Smoke in the casinos is generally horrible. The issue is not those playing who might smoke but rather that the casino is specified as a smoking venue. In fact, on many if not all ships, it is the only indoor smoking venue.

I don't fault the smokers as they are abiding by the rules and using the casino as the indoor smoking venue. I fault the casino. I feel badly for the casino workers. The smoke is often unbearable.

Thanks for all the info, everyone.

I didn't know the Navigator was smoke free until we boarded. Pretty silly of RCCL not to advertise this in advance, or post it clearly on their website.

I might have considered them before if I had known, and I'll bet there were some aggrieved smokers who were hoping to use the casino as an indoor smoking venue.

So it looks as if it will be Celebrity out of the US, and the possibility of RCCL out of the UK if we can get sufficient assurances that this is now an accepted practice, and not just a temporary experiment.

Darn thats sad to hear. We will be on the TA and this Thread had got my hopes up. In Colorado you pretty much can't smoke indoors anyplace and we forget what it is really like till we travel.
