Tour boat near manhattan terminal

we are arriving at JFK at 8 a.m. And sailing on the Viking Star at 4 p.m. We have Viking transfers so will probably need to wait for a full bus to transfer to the ship. Assuming we arrive at ship around 11 or 12, are there any Harbor tours leaving from a nearby pier? Time will be tight as we will probably need to be on board by 3 at the latest.

A few hundred yards south of Manhattan Cruise Terminal at pier 83 is Circle Line Cruise with a variety of different cruises about the harbor. The best of which is the trip around the whole of Manhattan, but be aware, that ride takes 2 and a half hours. Google Circle Line, NYC and you can get a full listing including prices. Good thing is as a rule you don't need reservations, just walk up. Enjoy!

Sailing out of Manhattan is special. You will be sailing right past the NYC skyline, Battery City Park, the World Trade Center, past the Statue of Liberty and beneath the Verazzano Bridge. Lots of time for photo ops.

Best of NY is the 2-hour cruise, they do a landmark 1.5 hour and an express liberty at 1-hour cruises starting at 10a. $43/$37/$31 for an adult.

They have narrated cruises and walking distance to the pier. They also have cruises that leave from the South Street Seaport Downtown east side of Manhattan.

Except for the portion done on the East River seeing the bridges that connect to Brooklyn and Queens from Manhattan, the UN and such you get the same experience from your departure from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal minus the narration.

I would even suggest the NYC Ferry Astoria Route from 34th Street to Wall Street if you want to see the East side of Manhattan, no narration but it is $2.75. You would have time to do that arriving at 8am.

You will need to board by 2:30, you really don’t have time for a tour.

I agree. The time line is too tight. Even if the OP arrives at 8 am, the cruiseline shuttle transfer is unlikely to leave for quite a while. So the question is what time the transfers start. I've been on a cruise where the first transfer was at 11 am. Bus from JFK will take at least an hour, so arrival at the cruise terminal between 12 and 12:30. Add more time for check in and there's not much time left before 2:30.

The only way to buy time is to cancel the cruise transfer and take a cab or car service to the port. Cab fares from JFK to Manhattan are a fixed flat rate plus tolls and tip.

8 AM on weekdays is prime & peak time at JFK for arrivals & departures, even if skipping bus transfer & taking a taxi (flat rate + toll to anywhere in Manhattan, for about $60 USD per ride + tips) for the 90+ minutes likely travel time, Plus, add 30 to 45 minutes from taxiway to gate, walk to/wait for luggage & join queue for ground transportation, if the flight is on time.

It looked like you'll most likely to doing this on a weekday and NYC traffic is unpredictable at best. You will probably get to MCT sometime between 10:15 and 11 AM, porters are outside for bags dropped. Weather permitting, you will have great views sailing down the Hudson River high on the ship - minus any narration of the landmarks ... pretty much what you will only get to see on the shorter 1 hour or 90 minutes Circle Line boat tour.

Keep in mind that you will be asked to arrive 30 to 45 minutes before the tour's sailing to go thru security, no food or beverages allowed to be taken thru.

I personally would suggest another activity ,perhaps a walk on the east side of Manhattan.

That is ridiculous to suggest they go to the east side when they have at most a 2 hour window and will be on the west side.

Op...forget touring anyplace other than the immediate surrounding area of the port. Just get onboard and enjoy the ship asap

The sailaway in NYC is like a tour. You see many sites

Times square is too far as well but if you feel you must...take a taxi there and back to ship also

But honestly you need to be onboard by 2:30 and probably won't be thru the checkin process until noonish so you really have no time for anything but exploring the ship
