Neptune vs vista suite

We are booked in a Neptune for a 21 day B2B cruise and the Neptune Suites are sold out for the cruise(January 2019). There has been a pretty drastic price drop for the rest of the cabins and we are contemplating switching to a Vista Suite. Ship is the Veendam. We have never sailed on an R class ship and it appears the Vista Suites are just like the regular balconies on the larger ships. Small bathroom and small balcony, no real sitting room. We are looking at an aft cabin. It is right under the retreat. We would lose OBC and prepaid gratuities if we changed. We have been in a Neptune once before in a corner aft and loved it. It looks like there are no extra amenities for the Vista Suites other than telephone concierge services. I know we are the only ones to decide if the switch is worth is(there is a huge difference), but really wanting to know if the Vista Suites are anything special. And do you still get double cruise credits?

"Vista Suites" are regular balcony cabins on the Veendam; just a new name and a double cruise credit for your Mariner star status, if this matters. Book this cabin if you want an aft balcony. If not, then stay with what you have.

Vistas are like the regular balconies on the larger ships, but the cabins & balconies are a bit bigger.

Otherwise, no, they are nothing special. There is a big difference between the Neptune & Vista.

The Neptune Suites on the S class ships (of which the Veendam is one) have much bigger & deeper balconies than the larger ships. You can put 8 people across for a sail a way wave. ;) They are quite nice balconies.

And you do get the double points since the cabin has the name suite in it ;)

Hope this helps, a bit.

The NS is double the size (more or less) of a Vista Suite. There's an in-between size on some ships called a Signature Suite. You only get the good perks like PG breakfast, laundry & dry cleaning, Neptune Lounge, etc. with a NS or PS.

The in-between Signature balcony cabins are on Vista class (Zuider-, Ooster-, Wester- and Noordam) and higher ships. Agree, they are the best of all worlds.

But as noted, the Veendam only has the very large and lovely Neptune balcony cabins or the regular balcony cabins. One other good thing about the aft cabin in question is being only one deck away from the Lido deck and few decks down to the main dining room and the activity-library level of the ship - I like this aft deck location.

Huge difference in the size of the cabin (about half the size of a Neptune). And of course you lose all the Neptune perks (plus the extras you already mentioned). Of course, the trade off value depends on how much fare difference is - to me it should be about 1/2 the price.

I always consider how many at-sea days we would have, assign a per-diem rate for different cabin options and think about how often i would really be enjoying the extra Neptune perks and space for the additonal cost. On longer cruises with more at-sea days I think Neptunes are the best, but for shorter port-intensive cruises not so much. What is your B2B cruise?

B2B is 21 day Authentic Cuba and Southern Caribbean. Not a whole lot of sea days. Price for Vista Suite is half that of the Neptune, minus $300 OBC and prepaid gratuities. Hard to pass that up, so it is, more or less, deciding if the perks and extra space is worth it for 21 days. Hard to decide

Thanks for the pictures. The aft corner vista suite looks like a Neptune. The rest of the Vista Suites do not have a big sitting area like that. They look more like a veranda cabin on the other ships we have sailed.

I would switch unless you need the space. We have stayed in both.

You do get the double points.

My DH prefers breakfast in the lido so he can pick what he wants.

As far as the laundry perk you can purchase an unlimited laundry package (no dry cleaning).

It looks like the decision was made for us. The lower price is no longer available...a case of “you snooze, you lose”. In fact, I think the price of the Vista Suites went up, which makes our Neptune a better deal as we have prepaid gratuities and extra OBC. We are ok with the decision as it would have been hard to let the Neptune go for a 21 day journey!!!!

I'm a bit of believer in "things happen for a reason".

enjoy your Neptune Suite - I am sure you will be glad you have it :)

Prices went down again...craziness. Called my PCC this morning and got the Mariner’s Private Sale price, plus our casino discount for an aft Vista Suite(we get double cruise credits, right). Very happy with the amount of money saved and the location of the cabin. What is so crazy is that when we booked the Neptune last winter, the difference between the Neptune and the Vista Suite was around $1500/pp...why not do the Neptune at that amount of difference? Now the difference is twice that! Anyway, we kissed the Neptune goodbye and said hello the the Vista Suite.

Glad to hear it worked out for you :)

And yes, you do get the bonus (double) Mariner credits with the suite.
