Rare FlyingScotSailors Posted May 5, 2020 #4326 Share Posted May 5, 2020 In honor of the holiday today, I am having one of JP's quarantine coffees (shaken and served up; Ann is having her martini stirred and up). enjoyed with BJ's fresh salsa, but we are running out of corn chips! Happy Sinko de Mayo!
Rare FlyingScotSailors Posted May 5, 2020 #4327 Share Posted May 5, 2020 JP, we have had rose breasted grosbeaks at our feeder, but not in the last few years. Lois, hang in there, and hopefully we can cruise together sometime. The Seabourn cruise we each cancelled at different times, and which was then was totally cancelled, would have landed today in Spain. While baking is not a perfect substitute for cruising, here are a few photos of our latest creations.
Rare jpalbny Posted May 5, 2020 #4328 Share Posted May 5, 2020 (edited) Yummy creations, FSS! Grilled a nice porterhouse steak for dinner tonight. It went very well with the last bottle of remaining wine from our Portugal trip last November. This bottle was probably 12 Euros in a local wine shop, but stood up very well to a rich steak. You just cannot beat Portuguese wines in terms of their quality to price ratio. That's especially true when you're in Portugal. I really had to read the menus carefully, because the prices are so cheap you'd swear that they are per glass, not per bottle. Such value! Today after work we went out walking in the Albany Rural Cemetery. One of the entrances is close to our street and we'd looked at it for years, but finally ventured in last year. For the past few weeks we've been taking advantage of the relative calm there, as compared to our street where everyone is out walking around, and about half of them are on the wrong side, so social distancing is really tough! Anyway, today while we were there, we hunted down this famous gravesite: Pretty cool to have his final resting place so close by! And Chris is particularly fond of him, because he went to Union College! Being an RPI guy myself, I have mixed feelings about that... Time for a relaxing evening in the hot tub. Rare TLCOhio Posted May 6, 2020 #4333 Share Posted May 6, 2020 Nice food visual sharing from FlyingScotSailors. Keep it coming!! As to the cemetery walk by J.P., I had kind of forgotten about President Chester Arthur. Normally, I'm a very good student of American history, including about Presidents. Needed to refresh my faulty memory. That Vermont native who is buried near Albany succeeded to the presidency upon the death of President James A. Garfield (an Ohio native) in September 1881. That was two months after Garfield was shot by an assassin who was unhappy when he failed to get a Federal job. President Arthur then helped push for civil service reforms, etc. Have a couple more from Rodney to share below. THANKS! Enjoy! Rare TLCOhio Posted May 8, 2020 #4349 Share Posted May 8, 2020 For a little different style of comedy, I am putting the spotlight this morning on Rita Rudner. Anyone remember her?? Compared to Joan Rivers, Rita's style was much more "thoughtful" and subtle. You had to think a little in order to maximize the enjoyment. Per Wikipedia, she started her standup career in the late 1970s, making her network television debut on Late Night with David Letterman in 1982. She appeared often on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show and recorded several award-winning comedy specials, including "Rita Rudner: Born to Be Mild". Rudner is the author of the books "I Still Have It; I Just Can't Remember Where I Put It" and "Naked Beneath My Clothes". Since 2001, Rudner has performed almost exclusively in Las Vegas, selling almost two million tickets and becoming the longest-running solo comedy show there. THANKS! Enjoy!
