EL Capitan Z Posted August 27, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2018 Just got off! I will share some main points. First off, we made some real nice friends and the cruise was fantastic! -The staff was excellent. Almost everyone was accommodating, fresh, happy and glad to be there. -The food was good. We really enjoyed the Caviar, Frois Gras (Hot and Cold) and the bountiful selection of healthy foods. -If you want excursions, Regent has you covered. We were only able to do one because we stayed up all night dancing and socializing thus unable to wake up early. If you have excursions planned, make sure REST and SLEEP are a priority the night before. The schedules are hectic if one decides to do something daily. -Entertainment was very good! One needs to prioritize between a night out or sleep! We loved the shows, casino and the dancing. The Cigar club was a great place to unwind and meet new people (great prices for cigars). -Because we stayed on the ship during the day, the pool was an essential HUB for social or relaxing activities. Wonderful pool, great layout. -The pool bar was my favorite place on the ship. The service was excellent. -Chartreuse and Prime 7 are very good. Food was fantastic. Get a reservation as soon as you are able. Actually, the food was very good all over. Sette Marre and Compass Rose were up to par as well. -Our room was spacious but needed a little refreshing. Carpet looked tired and balcony was stained in parts that looked like goopy tar. Also I like my room cold. This room never really cooled down to my desire. -We were mid ship but I explored the aft and I would like to say there are vibrations in the aft. At a certain, higher speed, vibrations are apparent. My suggestion is for you not to book aft suites if vibrations will not agree with you. Im ok with vibrations, actually put me to sleep. -WIFI is spotty at best. But this is a great excuse to put work behind and relax. -Pool area needs a little touch up. I loved this area however my eye caught many issues like rusty steps and faded teak and just lack of attention to detail. When a cruise price point is this high, the "line" needs to have a higher level of attention to detail. -Because I like to sleep, I disliked the early (1000am) Public announcements that were piped into the room. Also they shut hot water one day for a few hours. -I would have liked more caviar offerings and sea days. I can't wait to book my next cruise on Regent. We made so many beautiful friends and our experience was excellent.
Travelcat2 Posted August 27, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 27, 2018 Thank you for taking the time to do a review. It sounds as if you really had a good time on the Voyager. Our experience on the Voyager is pretty much the same as yours.

snuggarelli Posted August 28, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 28, 2018 We’re taking the same exact cruise (Voyager, 7 day, Monte Carlo to Barcelona next June 2019). So, I appreciate your honest report about how things went. Could you share about the one excursion you did go on? I would like to learn more about people’s experiences on these before I book them when the time comes up. Many thanks! Snuggarelli Wife to DH Mama to DD (21 yrs), DD (10 yo), DS (5 yo). Upcoming: 1). The only one we took was the Rome Hop on Hop off tour. Nice tour, however you need a plan of attack, for the time allocated can be less than needed. I booked many wine tasting excursions that I cancelled. Prior to the cruise I was very excited about these excursions. But during the cruise I decided that I do not need to taste any wine at 1000am. Hahahah. There is plenty of food and drink on board.

This is really, really helpful information because these are the two things we were just looking at! :D My worry on the Hop on and off is that I don't think I have the stamina to stay out in Rome for 10 hours. I'd like to finish my excursions by noon or so. We'd like to spend some time on the ship. On the wine tasting excursions, my husband said last night maybe that's what we should do instead. With your input, you totally make sense - we don't normally feel like drinking until later in the day. My husband did say just a day or two ago that he would be happy just sitting on the ship through the whole trip. I think we should spend some time on land, seeing the culture, and such. And the cheap side of me says I need to go on 1/2 day excursions because it's free, lol!
Travelcat2 Posted August 28, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 28, 2018 We either do half day excursions or, if the town is close, we'll spend a few hours wandering around the city. We love just being on the ship.

We love just being on the ship. I love being on the ship. I do make an effort to step outside and wander a bit, just to say "I put my foot in the soil". Cruises are a recon activity for me. For instance, I really loved Minorca so in the future I will take a holiday in Minorca. I think this particular cruise is extremely heavy in activities. One can become overwhelmed. Reality is no one can really see Rome in 10 hours. So make peace with your decision and know that you are on vacation. Don't get sucked into "FOMO"--> Fear of Missing Out. Enjoy the down time, Ship, new friends, entertainment and food/drink!!! Enjoy your Cruise!!! I

El Capitan- you know I was worried about how there are absolutely no sea days as each day has a port of call. How did you handle that? Did you flat out skip going off the ship, esp when on anchor? Rare Got2Cruise Posted August 29, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 29, 2018 We did this itinerary in July. Yes no sea days but there are excursions for beach breaks. For Rome and Florence there are 4 hour excursions not to those cities but places closer to the ship. We went for Rome, that was our only long day. Instead of Florence we went to Lucca. Instead of Nice we went to St Paul de Vence.

I think what we’ll end up doing (which is what my family does in Japan) is find out what the town is known for, buy it, and eat somewhere that is known for its local cuisine that you can’t get anywhere else. Maybe that’s what we’ll focus on. Food + shopping + minimal crowds + back by 1 = happy camper. :) Snuggarelli Wife to DH Mama to DD (21 yrs), DD (10 yo), DS (5 yo). Upcoming: 1). Snuggarelli, For what it's worth, I will share with you excursions that we have taken in some of these ports that we have really enjoyed. Naples- have you been to the Isle of Capri? If not, highly recommended. Monte Carlo- If you haven't been there, a Monaco tour has plenty to offer. If you have, or have 2 days I would recommend Eze or St. Paul de Vence, both wonderful tours. Kotor- we did Highlights of Montenegro and really enjoyed it. But the highlight of Kotor is the sail-in! Koper- we did Historical Piran and wine Tasting, loved this tour. Whatever you decide, I'm sure you will have a wonderful cruise. Bob

I’m not sure if we’re going to the last two places (maybe I’m mixing up itineraries). But, I’ve heard so many good things about Monaco. It sounds like it would be worth coming in earlier for that. Make sure you book your Chartreuse and Prime 7 reservations when the window opens. Well worth the trouble. All the restaurants are excellent but the speciality restaurants are something to experience. The Frois Gras is to die for (Hot and Cold). The Alaskan King Crab de shelled is 2lbs of buttery sweet fantastic meat. The New York Strip and Tar Tar are beautiful. Caviar is served until 1000am in La Veranda and 0930am Compass Rose (only Sundays, yet you have some caviar dishes in Chartreuse). Have Fun! Skysurfr Posted September 2, 2018 #17 Share Posted September 2, 2018 We are heading for the Voyager at the end of October. It will be our second Regent cruise in the same area. During our first cruise, we spent too much time off the ship on excursions. This time, we have an excursion booked each day but they are 1/2 days. There's some tastings, walks etc. We realized that having a menu of excursions might be tempting, you can easily not experience the great 5 Star floating resort you are on! This cruise will have a few morning excursions and a few after lunch excursions. A note about Rome and Florence. The ports are very far away from the cities. Once you head into those cities, you may as well spend the day. As I recall Florence was well over an hours drive by bus. In Rome we have taken the train into town and it also take well over an hour. This time we start in Rome. When we stop in Florence, we are going to do Lucca by bike for a few hours. You can google map Livorno Italy for Florence. Civitavecchia is the port used for Rome. Enjoy your ship time as well as your excursions. Mike

Rare RachelG Posted September 2, 2018 #19 Share Posted September 2, 2018 The Lucia bike tour is one of my top 5 evertours, so much fun, particularly when we got caught in a downpour and had to retreat to a cafe for an espresso.
Skysurfr Posted September 3, 2018 #20 Share Posted September 3, 2018 I agree. We also did the full day tour of Florence and Pisa on the first cruise through. Friends who are traveling with us and haven't seen Florence will do the full day this time. I noticed the note on the Lucca By Bike tour that mentioned it will become The Highlights of Lucca in the event of rain!

Im sorry! I did not pay attention. However, food wise, you will not be disappointed. La Veranda turns into an Italian Restaurant, at night, that is really FANTASTIC.
