How is a Family Inside (I1) different than any other inside room that sleeps 4?

i was assigned a I1 (family inside).

 

i cant figure out how it's different than any other inside room that sleeps 4?

any help?

A Family Inside is most times located closer to the Kids Club than other inside rooms for 4. If it is not located closer to a kids club, I have seen inside rooms designated as "Family Insides" due to their close location to the elevator or stairs.

Check the square footage, it is probably 10sqf bigger or something than a regular inside

They are the same, the term family means close to the kids clubs, same with balcony and mini suites. On some of the mega ships, there are some family ocean views that sleep 5 and are bigger.

No, they're not necessarily close to the kids clubs. Family balcony cabins on Jewel-class ships are located forward and aft on decks 8,9 and 10 while the kids club is located on deck 12 mid ship. Also all mini suites on the Jewel-class ships are on deck 11, so the family mini suites are no closer the the kids club than other mini suites...in most cases the mid ship minis and balconies are actually a bit closer because of their proximity to the mid ship stairs/elevators.

 

There's really no meaningful difference between family balcony cabins and other balcony cabins on those ships, other than perhaps a higher percentage of family balcony cabins being connecting cabins than is true for mid ship balcony cabins.

I can only speak for the BA. We were "upgraded" to a Family Inside once. Prior to that we had "a regular inside" that only slept 2. Although the "regular cabin" was compact, it was do-able, with decent storage. No complaints.

 

 

 

The Family Inside had 2 bunks attached to the walls. (Just 2 of us in the room.) Our beds had to be apart. If not, you'd have to bend over and you'd still knock your head on the upper beds if you wanted "one big bed" when getting out of the bed. (I'm under 5 ft tall.) I'm not sure if it was because of the "extra 2 beds" but the storage in this cabin was ridiculous. We only take carry-ons with us, and not even full carry-ons. There was not enough storage space as far as shelves...barely space to put underwear and other non-hanging articles.

 

 

This is the worst cabin I ever had as far as room and storage. However, there were 4 adults sharing this kind of cabin across the hall from us. Peeking in, it reminded me of "crew quarters" in very old ships.

 

 

It was close to the kids area but there were very few kids onboard.

On the Escape the "family suite" w loophole window on the 5th floor is bigger than the mini suite (balcony). On our very first NCL cruise we got upgraded (good old days) from inside sail away to the family room. It does have a bath tub instead of shower. It has more storage space, 2 large tv's and a curtain in the middle in case you want to "divide" the room. The kids loved the porthole window bc you could kind of get up in the window frame and have your own area for reading etc. In my family I'm the only one that ever enjoyed balcony :( Kids want now this family room (but its always darn expensive) and wife dreams of Haven - so we go balcony :)

Look at the deck plans..find out the sq. footage...that should give you a good idea!

Loved the family oceanview. It was very large, had a tub, and best of all a curtain separating the bed from the hidebed. Gave everyone a little privacy. I don't remember if it had 2 TV's. Going in one on the Escape in 4 weeks. It is on deck 5 and very close to the kids club so that is nice.

We received a "family balcony" on the Dawn last January. The rep told me that the reason it was "family" was because it had a connecting door to the next stateroom, otherwise no difference.

I have booked a "family inside" cabin on the Spirit for our upcoming cruise mid-September, simply because of the size (we are only 2 persons). Did some online research before choosing the exact cabin that I wanted, and the deckplans showed two different types of familiy inside's - one type was significantly larger than the other one, so that is what we went for (category I2). The cabin is located on deck 9 FWD, so not close to any of the "children areas". After booking the cruise/cabin, I asked here on CC if anyone had a photo of that particular cabin, and someone posted photos that showed the room to be very large compared to other inside's. As many of you know, the lay-out of cabins on the Spirit is very different than on other ships in the NCL fleet (as is the ship itself). On the Spirit the size of a family inside stateroom varies from 149 sq.ft. to 281 sq.ft, which is a big difference.... I have no idea if there might be different sizes offered also on other ships in the fleet, so I suggest to study the deckplans in advance...

Going from a regular ocean view to a family ocean view is a slight upcharge. The casino upgrade cost from OA to O1 was $80 per person when I booked.

oh.. i havent booked yet.

i have a 'free' inside.

 

on my Bliss cruise, an upgrade from inside to ov was $200, and inside to balc was $400.
