Yes the ship has a morgue.....

Where the offloading occurs is usually up to family preference.....

 

 

Incorrect.  There are major steps and family preference is not one of them. Depends on which jurisdiction it occurs. Unfortunately  I know.  Personally.

Thanks for clarifiying that piece - I was going from memory from a ship tour.  Very sorry you have the experience to answer this question.  :classic_sad:

Thank you all for the outpouring of emails, responses, love and concern.  I never intended for this thread to become personal, so please resume with the original subject.

 

Of course, here in South Florida, the news is chock full of what happened on the Royal.My friends were on the ship when this occurred and are still on the ship.  No further news coming from there.

I read the link that you provided.  There was no arrest made from what I read.  Is that true?  If so the ship returned to Florida with a  suspect on board, who walk off in Florida

This is very sad for the family, friends and crew.

Very possible.  But, without knowing everything the police have discovered, and what they have not figured out - they may not have a suspect.  For all we know.... not gonna start rumors... but there are things that MIGHT have taken place that may not result in a charge.  Nobody here knows, that is for sure.

I don’t know why Aruba police were involved. I believe since it happened on the ship, the FBI takes over the investigation. 

Btw, Natalie Holloway wasn’t on a cruise. 

I have actually seen the morgue on a ship! I won’t tell more, because I don’t want anyone to get in trouble.

Why would the FBI have jurisdiction? It's not a U.S. ship nor was it in U.S. waters. OTOH, the ship may well have already been in Aruban waters at the time which certainly would give Aruba jurisdiction.

There are too few facts for any of us to know exactly what happened.  Sometimes it’s what authorities are not saying that is a clue.  In this case her children’s statements could be an indication that she was suicidal.

 

The lack of facts being released by authorities could be another indication of it being a suicide.  It’s an awful situation for her family & friends and they may prefer to keep the results of the investigation private if it’s a suicide.

 

Hopefully this won’t be another poor investigation by Aruba like the Natalie Holloway death.  This isn’t a one hour crime show & it might take awhile to get more facts in the case.  Too much of the reporting is based on passenger’s experiences which are mostly rumors & not investigative facts.

 

After the investigation is completed we might learn more facts & their conclusions about what happened on that tragic night...homicide, accidental or suicide.

The FBI does not have jurisdiction but will be notified.

 

In 2010, Congress passed the Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act (CVSSA) with the support of the cruise industry. In addition to various operational and structural requirements to enhance shipboard security and safety, the CVSSA codified the industry’s 2007 agreement for reporting of serious incidents on cruises to or from the United States, and dramatically increased penalties for non-reporting. The CVSSA also requires that passengers shall have available contact information for the appropriate law enforcement authorities. All passengers and crew must have access to information regarding the locations of the U.S. embassy and consulate in each country the vessel will visit during the course of the voyage. In addition to the CVSSA requirements, CLIA’s members have adopted a policy that all passengers and crew are to be provided the means and assistance to contact law enforcement authorities. In addition, cruise ships sailing to or from the U.S. are required by the CVSSA to record all complaints of crimes and thefts over $1,000 in a log that is subject to inspection by law enforcement officials.

What's to worry about saying something about seeing the morgue on a ship. Anybody who has been on the Amazing Ship's Tour has seen it as well as a number of other "behind the scenes" places. It's not a big secret.

You must have seen something in that article that I didn't see. Other than a statement that the couple had gone on the cruise to work on their marriage, I saw nothing that offered any sort of hint of guilt for her spouse.  Not even the children cast any suspicions on their father's involvement.

Your comment is true.  On at least one ship's behind the scenes tour i took, when the cold room used as a morgue is not needed for such, the ship's florist kept his fresh flowers in that room.
