We were on the this cruise for a B2B2B and just got home.  DH and I were invited to the bridge for a tour.  There is a video camera pointed to the side of the ship that has an excellent view of lifeboat #2 and the balconies above.  They know what happened.

Wonder why Almarosa had a different cabin than the balcony cabin where she fell.

Her cabin was on Marina deck and was an inside cabin on starboard side.

The cabin where she fell was a balcony cabin on Lido deck port side.

 Both of these cabins were sealed after the death.News articles mentioned she had the inside cabin .

This is a mystery too.So who's cabin was the balcony cabin, was it the husband's.

We were on the ship and rumors were flying but no mention if the couple had different cabins only that there were two cabins involved.Such a tragedy for the family.

With regards to various law enforcement jurisdictions.  I will assume that the incident happened while in international waters, as this presents the most complicated scenario.  At sea, the "flag state" of the ship has jurisdiction.  However, the US has claimed "extra-territorial jurisdiction" over crimes against US citizens onboard foreign flag ships, while in waters not under any other nation's jurisdiction.  So, if this indeed happened in international waters, the FBI would conduct their own investigation.  If this had happened in Aruban waters, the FBI would have no jurisdiction, but would ask to be considered an "interested party" and to be included in the investigation.   If the incident happened in international waters, the fact that the ship entered Aruban waters with a person deceased by non-natural causes, triggers the involvement of the Aruban law enforcement agencies.  At the very least there would be a coroner's inquest.

 

The CVSSA, discussed above, has nothing to do with legal jurisdiction, nor the ability to investigate a crime, it is merely a crime statistic reporting measure, with some added operational and training requirements for shipboard security in terms of investigating and maintaining evidence for law enforcement agencies.  The US's claim for extra-territorial jurisdiction for US citizens long pre-dates the CVSSA.

We are on the Royal now and my laymen guess is that is was a suicide. They railing where is tragic event took place is about three feet deep and 4 feet high. If you tried to throw someone overboard at this spot you would have to pick them up  to about 5 feet and throw them about 4 feet to clear the rail. It would be very hard (although I guess not impossible) to throw someone over this rail. It would take a lot of struggle, it would not be a simple "push" over board. I am basing this off of reports that it happened from deck 16.

Is there any chance we can let this woman Rest In Peace?  This is not a TV show or a cruise production for your entertainment.  If and when the authorities come out with an answer, then we will all know.  In the mean time please refrain from all your 'knowing' answers.  The certainty of security videos is negligible as you may see what happened but they are almost never clear enough to see who is in the video.  Real life is not a 45 minute episode of CSI or Law and Order, we may never know what happened other than a woman lost her life prematurely.

 

The posters here who are certain about a muscular man, man choking a woman, fight in the casino, woman in someone else's cabin, should contact the FBI and become witnesses in the investigation.  If you really cared about this unfortunate incident and the fate of this unfortunate woman this is what you should do instead of spreading gossip.  Here is the telephone number of the Miami Office of the FBI which has jurisdiction in this matter : (754) 703-2000.

I've not seen anything lately about this most unfortunate incident.  Perhaps it was a suicide which is indeed very sad.  If there was foul play involved, one would think that action would have been taken at the time.  Perhaps any further news about this has been minimized out of respect for the family.

Or the news has been minimized because the cruise line wants to protect the image that project and the truth really doesn't matter it is all about  what people believe than what really happens.

Based on available information that was my speculation a month ago but one person thinks it’s a conspiracy by the cruise line to protect their image.

 

That would require law enforcement & the press to be co-conspirators to conceal the facts from the public.  Such conspiracy theories are ludicrous to me but some repeatedly see conspiracies when it comes to cruise lines.

 

If her family felt there was a criminal act they would have continued to promote it in the press.  Maybe now that her survivors have facts such as the reported video evidence, their silence is an indication of a suicide & not of any conspiracy to hide the truth.

I'm 100% certain that the deceased woman does not know that we are talking about her death and how it happened.  I've been on this board a long time and have read many tragic stories of people dying.  People speculating here goes with the territory.  While it's sad about her death, no one knows, and if they have released the husband, they probably already know what happened to her and how.  What her children say what she said is hear say and nothing more.

Exactly my point.  He clearly wasn't in his right mind.  Does anyone have an update on the case?
