HAL & Military Discount

Returning to HAL for a cruise in 2020 because I like the itinerary.

When I booked and inquired about any military discount I was told HAL doesn't extend this courtesy on any cruise.

Wondering why Princess and Celebrity, as examples, can do this for veterans on most every cruise but HAL cannot.

Just wondering, not complaining.

HAL doesn't need to get vets on their cruises. They are already booked. At least that is my take on it. It is wonderful that other cruise lines do this, but I won't sail with a cruise line just because of the benefits. I cruise for the itinerary. If it is a toss-up, I will go with the extra OBC.

I don't believe this is true.  On my TA's web site, it shows many HAL cruises with a "military rate".  However, as some have said, the reduction in fare is modest in the order of 8-10%.  Maybe the information you are receiving relates to a veterans' on board credit which some lines provide and HAL doesn't.

HAL absolutely does offer discounts to military (active, reserve, retirees), BUT, not on all cruises.  There are websites that will verify this.

I do not believe they offer OBC however.  At least, I have never received any OBC for military.

Not sure that’s HAL offering a discount.  I was bored this morning and tried a fake booking directly with HAL.  There was no place to enter military status (vet, retired, or active).   It might be available on selected cruises as an incentive  but it wasn’t obvious nor could I find anything in “special offers”.   External travel agencies might offer a small incentive but that’s totally separate from HAL and is just the agency rebating a part of their commission.
