We have a back to back booked on the same ship, but different staterooms. It is the 7 day Mexican Riviera out of Los Angeles and I am wondering what happens on the turn around after the first segment?   Do we have to leave the ship? Do we move our belongs to the other stateroom?

We did back-to-back in LA in March of this year on Ruby Princess with different cabins on each sailing.  Crew has always been very helpful in moving from one cabin to the other.  In our experience, they try to get your new cabin ready ASAP to help with moving.  We kept hanging clothes on hangers.  We did have to go off the ship and then escorted right back on pretty quickly.  Same in Ft.Lauderdale last Sunday. We were off for about 30 min before being cleared to go back on board.

You will have to leave the ship probably by 9.30am. You will be advised of the procedure. You can be last off if you wish, and first back on.

You mention that you will be in a different stateroom so you will have to move your belongings. The stewards will help you. The easy way is to pack up your small items (bathroom stuff, items in the drawers and folded clothes) and put them in a suitcase. The staff will move the cases and put the clothes that are on hangers on a trolley and move them to your new cabin. When we did this, we went to the new cabin on the last day of the first cruise and introduced ourselves to the steward. We told him we would be moving to the cabin in his area. He then said he would clean it first so we could put the items we were carrying in the new cabin (including the safe) before we had to leave the ship.

You can go off the ship on your own if you wish anytime from when disembarkation starts until the time you would be told to report to go off together as a group. If you do not go off on your own, then you must do so as part of the group.

Make sure your old and new steward (if changing stewards) are aware you are moving. You will need the new room cleaned so you can move from the old room to the new.

Since your turnaround is in the US, you will need to go thru immigration. A day or two before the end of the first leg, you will receive instructions. Just follow them and you will be fine.

Here is some information:

Turn Around Day, San Pedro

You will receive instructions from the cabin steward. Be sure to fully read and follow the instructions exactly for turn around day.
You will have two choices:
a) Exit the ship anytime after disembarkation has begun up to the final call around 9:30/10:00am. Take your passport, cruise card(s), medallion if used, and intransit card with you. Return to the ship anytime after embarkation has begun, around
11:30am. With the intransit card you will get right on the ship. You will have to go through immigration on exit and security when you return.
b) Stay on the ship and report NO LATER THAN THE TIME INDICATED to the location indicated in the directions, usually the theater. Bring your passport and cruise card(s), medallion if used, with you. If you stay on the ship you must report, NO EXCEPTIONS. A staff member will guide you through immigration and back on the ship. In some cases immigration officers may come on the ship, and the staff will lead you through the process.

You do not have to go to a second muster drill.

If you are staying in the same cabin your cabin steward will prepare your cabin just like any other day. Nothing is removed. We normally advise the cabin steward to schedule our cabin last to provide more time to get cabins ready for the new passengers. Just a courtesy.

If you are changing cabins your cabin steward will arrange for the move. Keep as much on hangers as possible. Pack other items in your luggage. Speak with your current and future cabin stewards before turn around day. On turn around day you will be able to move some items yourself, such as items for the cabin safe.
