Upgrade for GS was from 300 to 1.1 k per person. Since a total of 2.2 k for the GS is waaaay cheaper then 10.4 k we went for the maximum and it worked!

Welcome to CC.

Others have reported getting upgrades for a lower than max bid.

Hello everyone,

i just want to quickly share my experience with Royalup on our cruise last week. I found the other comments extremely helpful, so there it goes.

We booked the 7 night western med cruise August 22, on Harmony of the seas about eight weeks ago. I am a ClubRoyale prime member and used my annual free cruise certificate for an inside stateroom to book the cruise. We upgraded that booking right away to an JS guarantee. Total cost was about 2.4 k Dollars. To book the JS guarantee without a certificate the cost would have been 4.4 k Dollars. For what it’s worth, to select a specific JS, it would have been an extra 2 k, so no thanks. We got a JS assigned on deck 12 in a good location, so all was well. Since i also was interested in the higher categories i peeked at availability for larger suites and found an amazing larger availability in all higher categories. So i called and asked for the price for an upgrade to GS or OS. The upgrade fee for the GS was 10.4 k and 15 k for the Owner!!! Lol! No, thanks! The GS was retailing with a wow sale for around 14 k, which i find to be a ridiculous price for a week! But it’s also high season August in the med… Luckily we got an email for the royalup! Upgrade for GS was from 300 to 1.1 k per person. Since a total of 2.2 k for the GS is waaaay cheaper then 10.4 k we went for the maximum and it worked! We paid a total of 2.2 k dollars an dgot the GS. The strange thing is, that we also bid the maximon other categories, but did only got the upgrade for one step up from JS to GS. For example we bid total of 5 k for ATS 2 Brd or StarLoft, but did not get it. Although i know that they we not all occupied!? Go figure… But we were still very happy with the upgrade and enjoyed every bit of it!

Also the cruise was a total relaxed and great experience, only 900 passengers and 1.100 crew!

It seems to be like going to the casino. I have read where a JS has been upgraded to a CL with a minimum bid of $50 and then like above where Funkytown83 said that he also bid the max amount on higher level cabins that were available other than the Grand Suite he got but didn't get them even at maximum bid.

I just placed 2 RoyalUp bids for the 2nd half of our B2B Symphony Nov 2021 cruises.  I placed a min bid 2 different 2-bedroom options.  It likely won't go through, but after a week with his parents, our son would probably benefit with his own bedroom.  Or maybe we would be the beneficiaries.

Our Jr suite on the 2nd half was down the hall from the JS on the 1st half.

We just returned from  Alaska on Serenade of the Seas and we originally booked a balcony room.  We received the Royal Up offer and bid the minimum on 2 different cabins.  Our offer for the 1 Bedroom Owners Suite was accepted a little over a week before we set sail.  We were very happy with the upgrade @ $900 more per person.  We used room service a lot as they packed guests into the main dining room like sardines and it was very uncomfortable.  The other benefits like the behind the scenes tours were not available they said because of Covid.

Going on Symphony of the Seas Oct 2nd and also tried the Royal Up offers.   Hopefully we will get lucky again although we probably won't be in our cabin as much as we were for Alaska.

We are on Symphony this Saturday and just got our Royal Up acceptance, from a JS to a GS.  Very happy. But the email was interesting, because it says what to do if you are already on Odyssey and just now found out that you have been upgraded. I have never seen that before in a Royal Up email.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Your RoyalUp bid for a stateroom upgrade has been accepted.

What to do now:

  • You have been upgraded to the Grand Suite - 1 Bedroom stateroom(s).
  • If you are not yet onboard the ship, please reprint your SetSail Pass and luggage tags to accurately reflect your updated stateroom(s). When you log into Manage Reservation,  you'll see your new stateroom number, which is assigned based on availability.
  • If you are sailing on Odyssey of the Seas and are already onboard the ship, please stop by the guest relations desk as soon as possible to receive you new cabin number and key.

just a fun story but true.  wehad booked a balcony for 5 for right after 9/11/2001.  there wasn't people booking like normal so I emailed rcclfor an upgrade but explained i couldn't afford the price.  when we got to the counter to check in, we had gotten the royal family suite,  that was nice

Apparently on some ships the upgrade could come after you board - some are getting the denial email well after sail away.

I have a Royal Up bid for our September 19 Odyssey cruise, will be interesting to see if and/or when the reject email comes.

I was just double the minimum, perhaps could have got if for less. I actually bid more on higher-category suites but did not get them.

Its odd that you Symphony e-mail would have that notice particularly about Odyssey

I have some non-cruise pricing experience.  What RCL needs to do:  About 4-5 days out, review the bids and cabins available and send out an offer to the higher bids that they can upgrade for $xxxx  - their $$ bid on cat. xxx for 10% more than their bid.  People have no exact number when they bid and usually would accept a reasonable counter offer.   So if you bid $250 pp, they would accept $275pp.  Give them 12 hours to accept or lose the offer.

This would allow NCL to start closing the bids earlier and likely get most of the rooms filled at more than the bid prices.  Continue the process with next higher group of bids until 24 hours before sailing.

Without reading through 200 pages, curious. Sailing on Odyssey next month for the 6 nighter. We're in a regular balcony cabin and paid roughly $1100 a person. Currently, junior suite is going for like $3400 pp and grand suite is like 5k pp. Within the royal up, the max bid for junior suite is $220 pp with a minimum of like $40. Grand suite is like min $100 and max of a grand or something.

Is there any reason to think a bid would actually get accepted for the junior suite at anything other than the max, or anything but the max for the grand suite, since the rates are so high?

We have had reports of folks getting upgrades with min bid, including to JS. Normally, on a brand new ship, you might be right, but with the ship so empty, min bids can be winners.

At a max bid of $220 for a JS....no I wouldn't expect anything under that to get accepted. Same goes for the GS.
