Good way to start them on their way to quitting. Just clean up the indoor areas with NO SMOKING indoors. Also, don’t permit smoking in public areas of the beaches at Coco Cay and Labadee.
whyrlygig Posted January 5, 2019 #103 Share Posted January 5, 2019 I hope this happens! Our Public parks and beaches banned smoking more than a decade ago. It’s a very pleasant change!

Once that happens...the others will follow in lightening pace. Casinos onboard are already terrible gas chambers because of smokers, and plenty of folks would welcome the end to coddling the tobacco puffers. It will happen at some point. But they should coddle the non-smokers instead?
Cruise Girl Forever Posted January 5, 2019 #105 Share Posted January 5, 2019 I fully understand that a non smoker does not want the second hand smoke or put up with the smell. I don't understand the issue with vaping. It should take care of non-smokers concerns. No fire or flame, no second hand smoke, no odor on the person that has vaped. For many people it has helped them stop smoking which is a good thing..great thing. Yet we shove those vaping in a smoking section so they can still get second hand smoke and smell like an ashtray. No need for them to do it in the dining room, theater, state room, ect. With these mega ships and 5000+ people there will be many behaviors that will not be like yours or mine. And I am a senior so I have known for years you will never please everyone. Just go nuts trying.

Cruise Girl Forever Posted January 5, 2019 #113 Share Posted January 5, 2019 This thing with the elevator has to be a joke, Right? Imagine a smoker booking a suite and being told they can not use the elevator. Or getting a note in you cabin stating your bar tab is too low therefore we are revoking your elevator privileges. Ps a customer complaint that you cut one in the elevator so you are confined to the open decks. When does it end.
Aquahound Posted January 5, 2019 #114 Share Posted January 5, 2019 Interesting...the comments in this thread. I'm pretty sure beach bans are mostly about the litter, not the smoke.

I'm pretty sure beach bans are mostly about the litter, not the smoke. Here in New Jersey had a clean air bill or act, passed a few years ago. the governor at the time did not enforce it on beaches, broadwalks or in parks. This year our new governor did. I know one shore town did have volunteers that cleaned the beaches. This summer all Jersey shore towns are non smoking or vaping. It will be interesting to see what impact it has if any on revenue. The fines are very stuff for anyone who violates the new rules. Most were concerned that the lifeguards would be distracted from watching people in the water, since they would have to look out for those smoking or vaping as well. So instead they are hiring additional police for that job. The liter as far as here did not seems to be the primary reason for it. More like an add-on. To address the original topic of this thread. No, I don't think private islands should banned smoking. People work very hard now a days and life can be stressful. I feel they should be able to enjoy their vacation too. Its only one day out of an entire cruise. I am fine with it. And I have not smoked in 12 years.

I don't smoke, and I don't like the smell of it, but I can't think of a place where someone's smoke is less likely to bother me than a beach. I do think they should throw the book at smokers who litter the beach (or anywhere else) with their cigarette butts. As to the vaping, meh. It doesn't really bother me. They usually don't smell bad. It's their lungs. And when your in an elevator or other indoor environment is in your lungs with a moist medium.

We managed a very brief time on Ovation recently in the Casino to avoid the smoky gas chamber there. Since I'm headed to Vegas anyway soon, I can cure any casino visit urges in smoke-free sections provided by a few select establishments there (several of them). It seems quite ironic that Royal is paying a ton of money to clean the fuel emissions from their ships, while retaining select areas onboard to house choking-level smoker sections. Happy clean-air sailing. Edited January 6, 2019 by CRUISEFAN0001

Mrs. Dawg can't stand the smoke in the casino and won't go in.🤢 Which is great for the pocket book! She loves Celebrity's non-smoking casinos which is why I don't like sailing with Celebrity too often. Sure, it's better for her lungs but really bad for the bank account. Rare brillohead Posted January 6, 2019 #123 Share Posted January 6, 2019 It would be interesting if the proportion of casino dedicated to smoking were commensurate with the proportion of the population that smokes. Glass off 15% of the casino and keep the smokers (and smoking employees who volunteer to work in that carcinogenic environment) confined in that area -- keep the rest of the casino smoke-free. If the smokers complain about being restricted to a smaller section of the casino, or not wanting to be cooped up in a room of nasty smoky air, then they will have made the point for all the non-smokers.... why should non-smokers have a smaller section of the casino or have to be subjected to the nasty smoky air. 2
