What happens if when you book a GTY and you pay for a certain category but when you get your cabin assigned it is a lower category?

That is not supposed to happen, and I only remember it being reported here once.  The cruise line eventually came to a mutually acceptable situation with the guests.

So has anyone received their cabin when you got to the pier? Two weeks out from our cruise and haven't heard yet.

  • 3 weeks later...

We booked oceanview balcony guaranty on Symphony for 10-5-19 sailing on 9-12-19 and up to today did not have assignment yet.  We were getting antsy.  TA got a call from RCCL today asking if we would take a Boardwalk balcony.  They offered to refund 50% of our Cruise fare and a $500.00 onboard credit.  Anyone ever hear of this before. We ended up taking deal.

We had a similar deal on Princess once.  We booked a balcony and they offered to give our full cruise fare as onboard credit if we moved to interior.  They also sent a check for the $900 we didn't use.  Sweet deal!

Yes, offers do happen.  If you had said no, they would have moved on to someone else, until they found someone who would say "yes".

And you got a very good deal!  I would have taken that deal any day of the week and twice on Sundays!  😮 🙂
