Production Shows on Silhouette

Sue Denning was our cruise director on our December 21st sailing.  She was a lot of fun, was very entertaining and had tons of energy.  She was visible around the ship quite a bit, especially in the evenings, always greeting guests with a smile and stopping for a quick chat.

The production shows were Cosmopolitan, Pearl and Life.  They production company also did a fourth show on Christmas.  We saw the Christmas show, and then only Cosmopolitan and Life (not Pearl), and were impressed with certain portions of both shows (especially the aerialists), but some of the singing was truly horrendous.  The songs were mostly well-known ones from the past decades, along with some more recent ones.  They ranged from ballads to pop to a couple of country and then also some rock.  The choreography was apparently not very well done.  For Life, I sat next to my oldest daughter who has done classical ballet and modern / contemporary dance for 14 years and she was just appalled at the lack of skills in some of the dancers and the poor choreography, especially during Life.  I didn't think they were that horrible, but then again, what do I know.  At the very least, the shows were entertaining and a few of the performers truly shined (all of the male dancers and singers were very good; sorry I cannot say the same for the female performers).

I will say - the ship's orchestra was fantastic in all the shows.  If anything, definitely go for them.

HTH!

Linda

The three above mentioned production shows would rank as the three worst ones we've seen ever. We've found 99% of the shows we've seen, we were able to find something positive about them, not these three. Until they change shows, the Silhouette is of the radar.

I'm on the Feb 10 sailing of the Silhouette and very much look forward to the evening entertainment.  Can someone please tell me about the current production shows on this ship?

You don't have to get there early to get a good seat for the production shows.  Enough said.... We won't book for them...

We did enjoy the special groups that came on board like the Beatles and Elton John type impersonators.

Thanks for the responses!  I guess I need to look forward to the impersonators.  The last couple shows I saw, Chandelier and Top Hat, were awful----I was hoping they would have better ones.

Sue Denning was also the Cruise Director on our westbound TA aboard the Silhouette in November.  It was our first time cruising with her, and I now see why she has such a great reputation here on the Celebrity board.  Definitely fun and entertaining.

Those were also the production shows on our sailing.  I don't have a very high bar for such shows on cruise ships, but these were really awful, mostly the fault of whoever created them.  Silly and dull.  The singers had their own show one evening early on, and they were quite good, especially the three males, who did a version of "Bring Him Home" from Les Miz that really hit it out of the park.   And the Silhouette Orchestra, led by "Big MIke," was really terrific.

Obviously, I have no idea what performers will be on board in February, but the production shows don't change very often, so don't hold out hope for anything different on that score . . .

I felt the singers and dancers were quite talented.  However, the new Celebrity production staff has gone in a different direction from the previous type shows.  It  does not appeal to us.  As mentioned before, the singers did a show on their own one afternoon and it was the 'old style' and just fantastic.

Just go with no expectations and make use of a drink package.

And if you are lucky enough to hear Sue sing you are in for a real treat.  She has an amazing singing voice

Agreed!  She sang one song after a show one night, and I was really blown away.  She was FAR more talented than most of the guest performers on board.

Sue Denning was also on our November/December Southern Caribbean cruise....she is awesome!  Wish we would have gotten to hear her sing.

Production shows (same as others mentioned) were "ok" (we are on vacation and try not to be too picky).  But, agree that something about them were a bit "off".  We really enjoyed the production shows on the Infinity in 2017 (Pacific Coastal), and thought their featured singers were really talented.  Not quite the same here, though....

We were on the Silhouette in November.  The production shows were just ok--especially did not like Pearl, except for the first 'underwater' segment.  We just didn't care for the artsy concept of most of the shows.  I enjoyed the aerialists and some of the singers were ok; a couple were kind of screechy.  I thought the dancing was good.

The show we enjoyed the most was the one mentioned earlier that the signers did on their own.

We enjoyed Sue Denning but if she was the one scheduling things, improvement was needed.  After being on the Getaway last year, entertainment was a let down.

I don't think the Silhouette and an NCL mega ship are at all comparable.

In any event, the Cruise Directors don't schedule or create the production shows, and I'm not sure how much input they have in booking the guest performers.

Our westbound TA on the Silhouette in November was heavily impacted by weather.  An additional sea day was added at the last minute so that we could alter our course to avoid a huge storm, requiring Sue to come up with additional daytime activities.  Also, because of the weather for much of the crossing, it was not safe for some of the evening entertainment to take place as planned, requiring a good deal of juggling by Sue.  I thought she did an excellent job handling these various challenges.

I certainly agree that the Getaway and the Silhouette aren't much alike.  Sad to say, we enjoyed the Getaway more--never would have guessed that.

I do realize the cruise directors don't create the production shows, of course.  I actually don't know just how much influence they actually have on any of the entertainment, but many things just seemed 'off' on this cruise.  I didn't like the 7 and 9 show times as it made it difficult to schedule dinners around them and the timing for movies seemed as if they were intentionally scheduled so that it was hard to do anything else.

Sue was probably my favorite cruise director ever, personality wise.  It would be nice to know just what exactly the CD does arrange or is responsible for as far as entertainment.  I suspect much of it is controlled by corporate.

We thought the male singers were very good but the girls were all screechy sopranos.  DH was not impressed with the productions and felt we had seen better.

did you have abba mania in the atrium?  I'll be on this feb

On the TA in November, we had an ABBA Sing-a-Long dance party up in the Sky Lounge around 10pm one night.  It was jam packed and huge fun!   Something in the atrium sounds like it would be great too.  Enjoy your cruise!

It sounds like we are going to be disappointed with the shows. Therefore, we will sit in the back with aisle seats so we can leave if they are that bad.

Are the shows also VERY loud , like they are on RC? I have to put Kleenex in my ears to drown out the noise, especially the “screechy” singers...it really does help!

I think that sums up our thoughts as well.

I enjoyed Uptown but the rest were just ok...
