When I went in, I wanted my runway to stay where I left it, not wandering around the ocean. 😄

I used to sail a 22 ft sailboat on the Chesapeake Bay.  In theory, if I was under sail, I had the right of way.  However, when there was a large freighter and me, I avoided him regardless of what the right of way rules might say.

You may want to refresh your memory of COLREGs 8 and 9 (particularly 9b).

I guess that is what you might also call the "common sense rule".  We always followed it in spite of the fact that I did not know that the exact rule existed.
