Current Coco Cay Questions

Good morning! After a crappy winter I am ready to board Anthem now. I was looking at some maps of Coco Cay both past and future (and a drone video taken a month ago) and it raised some questions about how things are right now. First, any word on completion of the pier? I am still hopeful it will be done by the time we board in April. Second, we got a clam shell and from the maps it looks like they are on only one place on the island, is that accurate? What is near them? Some of the old maps show a bar nearby but the new maps aren't as detailed. Are there paved walkways to get around or is it walking through sand everywhere? How far is it from the clam shell area to the food and market area? Is there anything else that we should know about? Thanks as always for the help!

The pier is not scheduled to be ready until May.

As nothing is scheduled to be opened until May I would go by the drone footage for where things are currently located.

On the Anthem now. Captain said yesterday that the pier will be ready in March. He said we are one of the lucky ones who still get to tender. LOL. Time will tell.

I am not questioning what the captain reported but I was there last weekend and in my opinion-NO WAY the pier will be completed. We’ve been able to watch the progress for some time and it is moving slowly.   Perhaps he meant  May rather than March. Of course even if the pier should be completed that early, it will not be usable until they build the bridge that goes from the pier area over the old tender lagoon.

I think we are also on the same cruise, i just watched the video also. I've never been there and I realize they are under construction but from the drone video it all looked kind of crappy. I'm a bit worried

We had the clam shells in December, they were just past the floating bar.  We grabbed a drink on the way to the clam shells and then waded out to the floating bar for another one, so don't remember if there was one closer.  I don't think the food was more than a 5 minute stroll (slow walk).  No paved pathways just sand, the road (tramway) was hard packed sand and easy walking.

Thank you. I see many trips to the floating bar for me since DW will want to just sun.

We are on the cruise together. It looks like all of the public areas are okay and the construction is fenced off, so I think it will be okay.

Thanks, I can't wait to get home and watch it on TV tonight.  I wonder how many people went to guest services to complain about the drone noise.

Not sure they would be able to hear it over the band and the jet skis (and construction sounds).

I think a few people on the South Beach side would.    We rented the beach beds there, while I was diving on the other side of the island, my wife drug her chair to the edge of the water and sat there an hour.  A couple in the bed behind ours complained to anyone who would listen that she was spoiling the view from their bed.     No band on that side.  Can't wait to get back there in about 200 days.

Some people's kids. I wonder if they complained onboard? It really wouldn't surprise me (now that I think about it) if someone did complain about the drone. I tend to tune such things out.

fwiw, I was told by the RC employee who booked my 12/19 sailing that the pier would be ready for use in May.

And if is not they will refund the cost of your cruise??????  😄 😄 😄 😄 😄

Last year, it was promised be done by September.  2018.  Then Dec, then Jan, then April, now May.

Personally, I will  believe it, WHEN IT ACTUALLY OPENS.

That actually does raise another question since completion of the pier is uncertain- how is tendering handled on Royal? Numbered zones, everyone just line up FCFS, people with certain status get to go first?

Did they take you to the clam shell area via tram/golf cart? I thought I read before that due to the distance they transport those with bungalows, day beds, and clam shells to that beach area.

I have only gone on Grandeur, which is a smaller ship.

Suites/D+/Pinnacle meet in the CL and get escorted down and onto the first tender.

As I understand it, those with early booked "excursions" get boarded on the first tender or so.  And the rest just line up.
