I remember that back in the early 80's the ships sounded their whistles before departing from a port. I think one blast was 30 minutes, 2 blasts was 15 minutes, and 3 blasts meant 5 minutes (or as a CD said "stop running, you are too late").  This was in every port- wondering why they stopped.
