Carry on drop off for Suites...or just for the Key?

These classes only exist on Oasis and Quantum class ships.

The OP is asking about Liberty.

I believe for royal suite guests, an officer meets you dockside and takes you to your cabin?  Or does the officer just meet you dockside and escorts you on ship?  I have no experience in this as we have not sailed in a royal suite.  This is what I recall reading here.

I missed that. Just remembered in the past the concierge on other ships did allow us to drop off in the CL/SL if he or she was there. It's worth a shot.

IME, the concierge is not there until the evening on embarkation day, NOT during the afternoon of Day 1.

The Grandeur used to allow anyone to drop off carryon luggage in the South Pacific lounge.  For some reason, they recently stopped doing this.  😞

The OP is not in the Royal Suite. She is in a Panoramic Oceanview Suite.

I'm really confused to the difference between leaving a carry on bag at a specific location on a ship vs the porter?  Actually the porter seems more beneficial as you don't have the bag when walking up ramp to get to the ship.  Once the bag leaves your hands it can get misplaced by either. and you have to wait for delivery for both.

The difference I see would be that leaving a bag with the porter involves more people moving the bag from place to place, cart to cart, both crewmembers and non-crewmembers.  Leaving a carry-on in one area would seem to be less subject to misplacement/damage/etc.

Carry on is different than a checked bag.  Checked bags (no matter what size) go through the porters...carry on bags are just that....Carried on.

Two years ago we had the Royal Suite on the Enchantment and the Concierge did meet us at the terminal check in counter and escorted us on the ship. Last weekend in the Royal Suite on the Mariner the Concierge met us in the MDR for the Suites lunch and then escorted us up to our incredible suite.

Luggage drop off was free September 2018 on the Mariner. Enjoyed it. Then after that, suddenly we heard about The Key and now you pay for luggage drop off. Granted, the staff does take your luggage to the room but we enjoyed that one-time free luggage drop off experience.

If you were so inclined could you not take them to the suite lounge?

Although I've never done it.

Don’t know how everyone missed this.

Your not supposed to be able to bring guests into the SL unless they are in Full Suites or Pinnacle. Not saying its not tried or successful.

I thought she said it was a suite.   Didn't catch the guests part.

I did not ask the difference between a carry on and a checked bag.  Re-read my question.  i asked what is the difference between leaving your bag with a porter vs in specified place on the ship?

Doesn't seem worth all the hype on the Key I keep reading but everyone is different.

How did you get the bag to the "specified place on the ship" on embarkation?  Did you "carry" it on?   Porters are outside the terminal (before you check in) taking bags from you that you dropped off to them...hence "checked bags".  The difference is pretty clear to me.

Or am I missing something obvious here?   🤨

Porters are also running your checked luggage through the large scanners after you drop them off.

I have dropped off my carry-on in the CL on Jewel. I asked the concierge when he emailed me before arrival if I could do this and he said absolutely! Only Pinnacle and true suite cards would open the door and there's a security camera in the lounge. The 3 of us left our carry ons behind the chairs by the window where they weren't so noticeable. There was nobody in the lounge and once the cabins were open our luggage was exactly where we had left them.

Seems like you are missed the question.  Obviously, I know the difference between a checked bag and a carry on bag as the average person would.  I asked the "difference between leaving a carry on bag at a specific location on a ship vs the porter?  Once the bag leaves your hands it can get misplaced by either. and you have to wait for delivery for both"  As you can see from the original question, I did not ask the difference between two type of bags.

I've already been given a reasonable response to the question asked.

I think I'll wait for the email and ask like you. I'm on the BotS and then IotS soon and have been reading this thread to get a definitive answer, can I leave a carry on bag somewhere after I've boarded the ship till the rooms are ready, I am in a grand suite and likely boarding early, but so far the posts not made much sense to me.

Sorry...your question was very confusing to me.  Carry on...pun intended.  😉

We simply go straight to the CL or SL and relax there with our carry on bags within sight.  We never leave them unattended, but that is just us.  We enjoy having lunch in CK, on ships that have them. It's nice on Oasis with a carry on drop off area near podium while waiting for cabins to open.  If we are instead in the CL (on ships that still have them) we have some coffee, read, check emails...etc.

Thanks for that island lady, I like to explore the ship so it would be perfect if I could dump the carry on and explore, failing that I'll cram everything into my checked luggage, so I don't have to lug anything around.

We use simple small rolling carry on bags.  It's really no big deal to roll them on.  And our wine is in them also.  😉
