canadarocks Posted August 12, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 12, 2019 We're doing a East -> West full transit of the Panama Canal and the Oosterdam doesn't stop for shore excursions. Since it's not a "port day" can we expect the Pinnacle Grill to be open for lunch at day?
Rare rafinmd Posted August 12, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 12, 2019 It was on the Prinsendam so I would imagine it would be at least if your ship's Pinnacle has a decent ocean view. Roy
Sir PMP Posted August 12, 2019 #3 Share Posted August 12, 2019 Pinnacle should be open during transit unless they will announce in the program that for some reason it will be closed for lunch..
SilvertoGold Posted August 12, 2019 #4 Share Posted August 12, 2019 We've had lunch there several times during the Panama day. Good way to enjoy the scenery in a cool setting.
canadarocks Posted August 12, 2019 Author #5 Share Posted August 12, 2019 Thanks everyone. I'll be sure to pre-book it when we board if it's available. 🙂
catl331 Posted August 12, 2019 #6 Share Posted August 12, 2019 You might not get a window table as there aren't that many. I'd rather eat lunch in the Lido or by either pool for a better view.
canadarocks Posted August 12, 2019 Author #7 Share Posted August 12, 2019 I figure it's a very long day and the AC and peaceful venue might be very welcome, window or not. 🙂

Also, if you're doing the full transit there are three sets of locks. So if you happen to be eating lunch while the ship is locking through one set you'll have one or two more chances to watch the FASCINATING procedure. I've been through a few times on HAL ships and will do it again next month on Volendam. It never gets old <-- well, OK, I'm a retired engineer so it doesn't take much to amuse me. 😉 Edited August 13, 2019 by Av8rix
bennybear Posted August 13, 2019 #9 Share Posted August 13, 2019 We did this on our transit, The window table often faced a cement wall😉
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 13, 2019 #10 Share Posted August 13, 2019 The Pinnacle Grill has always been open on our full transit cruises. And we have done quite a few full Panama Canal transits.
JimnKaren Posted August 13, 2019 #11 Share Posted August 13, 2019 It is nice to have the windows, just for the natural light. However, it is not necessary. We have been through the canal eight times and have become accustomed to being in the Pinnacle for lunch that day. Typically, it is not crowded and the staff has the time (and if you encourage them a bit) to chat with you quite a bit. It is a nice alternative to the goofiness upstairs.
