Chiming in on The Sunrise

Just off the ship on the 27th and I will give my opinion of this cruise.

First off - I read all the horrible reviews and was expecting all the honors of the stories, personally speaking yes it wasn't my favorite cruise however it certainly wasn't the worst, and as a matter of my opinion the worst of this cruise is the rudeness and disgraceful behavior of some guests.  Loud music in boom boxes, pot smoking in the one smoking area on deck 10, kids running through the halls and sitting on the stairs not allowing people to pass.

Best cruise director I have ever experienced and I have cruised 25-30 times in the past.

Food was average cruise food - we ate in the steakhouse - which was wonderful and the Italian restaurant - I am Italian and the food was OK - we wouldn't have tried however the casino gave us the meal so we went and was glad we did.

Room Stewart was just OK - probably only saw him twice in the 8 days but our room was clean, some times it was as late as 1PM before he got there though. We had a table for 2 in the dining room and our waiter was excellent.  Heard a lot of complaints about smoking in casino - I am a non-smoker and have to say I thought this was not an issue for me at all.

Buffet was overall the worst for lunch - you definitely had to settle for things that you might not have originally wanted, however there was never a line at Guys Burgers or the Pizza.  As for breakfast we are early risers and were at breakfast between 8:30 - 9AM and never experienced a line or lack of tables.  I was always able to get a seat at the pools because I was there before 10am however it was very crowded.  I would have loved an adult only pool.  My husband had knee surgery recently so we didn't get off at St. Thomas or Puerto Rico so I can't comment on that accept that it's very nice to enjoy the ship when everybody else does.  As for Turks we just went to MargarittaVille and parked our stuff on a lounger and hung in the pool for a few hours, nice to not have salt water in the pool for a few hours.  Would I cruise the Sunrise again - maybe not in August in New York, however we went through the casino for port charges and taxes only so anytime I can get that kind of an offer I will pack my bags.......  Any questions - ask away.

Headed out on her in 2 weeks.

Glad to hear the Steakhouse was excellent as my husband really enjoys going once a cruise. We have Your time dining for the first time.

Couple questions -

Which restaurant area is for the Your Time dining?

Any seating tips for the Lido since we've heard it gets crowded?  I know on Sunshine, folks on here tipped me off to head back to Havana Bar for seating. And a number of years ago on Splendor I read a tip to head upstairs which worked well.  Any "secret" seating areas?

On my time dining you check in by the Sushi place and I believe you are seated in the Sunrise Dining room.

As for Lido  - upstairs is always an option however we never had a need - there is never a line for eggs and omelets in the back of the ship by the pool - went out there often.

If you download the carnival app you can reserve a table for your time dining without needing to go to deck 5 first. Worked very well when we used it.

Yes. i love this when i was on the sunrise on June. the time estimate was very accurate and sometimes the ready notification came a few minutes less then the expected ETA

Yours is not the only review reporting the bad behavior of passengers on this ship.  I have read at least two others stating the same thing. We've been on 10 different Carnival ships and have not run into this. Why is Carnival taking charge and addressing this?  I find that disturbing.

I did a review as well and was on this cruise and agree with you -

I forgot to mention in  my review the smell of pot was everywhere. Good thing they sent us the code of conduct and the warning on marijuana before we left as a reminder as it could only have been worse if people were not told this!

Without a doubt, the toughest cruise from a clientele perspective we have ever been on.  We had someone staying in the CS who had similar problems.  Tough crowd.

On our cruise they did, in fact 2 cabins do people were put off in SJ.  This issue is way beyond Carnival to solve....

I will try again, way to much of it on the ship[, hard to track down on balconies

Unfortunately it was on the 10th floor - right out in the open.  I could understand if it was on balconies.  They need to beef up security

I smelled it from the Tides pool on the Breeze several times and days coming from the smoking section on 11. But then again I seem to smell it lots of places I go these days. I smell it in NYC all over the place on the streets, I just smelled it in downtown Hershey, PA this past weekend and I’ve been smelling it on the boardwalk where I run every morning. There’s no smoking allowed on the beach or the boardwalk where I smell it. I’ve been running there for 20 years and this is new. I don’t think the pot thing is a Carnival thing, it’s a thing of the times and hard

to tell exactly where it’s coming from with all the new ways to smoke pot.

We’ve also had a rough crowd on both our NCL Breakaway cruise out of NYC and our Pride cruise out of Baltimore. Even though it’s convenient I’m not sailing out of the NE anymore. Prices are usually about the same including flights to FL.

Hi

Yes. Yes. Carnival is in charge, they should be able to do something.

For many years now they have shown that they choose not to be confrontational. Every irritant that people have brought up on these threads, spelled out clearly against the rules (I won't name them all, you just have to read these threads to know). You name it... people even will come on this site and brag or rationalize that certain rules don't apply to them. What do you expect. This is just one more rule broken.

Carnival may take a more aggressive approach for this issue, just because it's still illegal in most places. However, it still comes down to a general increase in people who are inconsiderate and selfish who will do things just because they feel they can. As the saying goes "you can't fix stupid", and if someone came up with a "test" too many people would be excluded.

Sorry, way, way more societal than Carnival.  States in the northeast are decriminalizing it in droves, even recreational use.  Add too that you can get a medical card for it if you have a toothache.  Even where it is illegal, authorities wont even arrest let alone prosecute.  They can try and minimize it for the ,majority of their guests, but society made this monster.

Agree, pretty sad isn’t it?

IMHO, I would much rather smell pot than cigarette smoke. Pot will soon be legal everywhere, just like booze and cigarettes are. Even though I'm not a pot smoker, I have no issue with it. Give me a nice mellow pot smoker any day than an out of control drunk!

Hi

Yes, but what I was getting at is that it is illegal to enter the U.S. with any of these products, even though they may be legal in the state a person is trying to enter.

Canadians have been refused entry for simply admitting to having used the product sometime in the past. The Canadian government has had to make a point of telling citizens that when crossing the border into the U.S. you should never lie to a border agent but if you admit to having used a product (in the past) that is considered illegal to the federal government (U.S.), you can be denied entry. In certain situations you may be permanently denied entry, resulting in having to request legal exemptions every time the person would like to enter the U.S. .

Of course, they can't deny entry to U.S. citizens returning home, but there are many non U.S. citizen (even those residing in the U.S.) on every cruise that returns to the U.S. . This should certainly be a concern to them.

I was not necessarily referring to pot.  I am more concerned with unruly, aggressive passengers.

No - you can walk - it's just situated wrong,  they have the juice and coffee stations right in the way near Guy's Burger and the Mexican place which is always crowded,   They should have put them on the side.  The buffet is the most crowded.  I didn't find any other place overly crowded.  Even the shows, we always had a seat, however we went upstairs on deck 5.
