Lots of the data above is old...  1990 x2, 1996...  heck I even smoked back then. Have been a non smoker now for 19 1/2 years.

I’ve been in non smoking Casinos and plenty of people are playing. I disagree with you that both should be  accommodated. Smoking should only take place if necessary OUTSIDE and away from Non Smokers.

I don’t smoke and don’t like being around smokers but I do understand why certain businesses want smokers as I have worked with some people in this field.

There probably are ‘plenty of people playing’ in non smoking casinos but statistically not necessarily the profile of people that the casino wants.

Someone who smokes is reckless, reckless is good in an environment where money and risk taking is involved.

Who is is more likely to drop $200 dollars on blackjack. Someone who is reckless about their health or someone health conscious who has concerns about the casino ventilation etc.

Ideal customer for a casino is a  drinking smoker. If you tick both boxes of the most prevalent legal addictions the work is already mostly done for the third addiction  - gambling.

Casinos are this ruthless in their thinking, a pleasant environment is not the key concern. The key concern is the reckless say 10% of the population (including smokers) and how much $ can be extracted.

The ban will happen, the environment of the casino will be nicer for us non smokers and I for one will be happy with this.

Profits though will go down and the cost of our cruises may go up to compensate.

And that is the reason even with being offered freebie sailings on Celebrity I refuse to sail them. Every NCL new build has less and less places to smoke which is why I have started sailing Royal...If Royal does away with casino smoking....I will move on from them too.

I have a non smoking casino 20 minutes from my house.....yet I take a 2 1/2 hour ride to Atlantic City instead....wanna guess the reason why?

There must be more to the story. Would you really drive 2.5 hours to a casino just so you could gamble and smoke? Why wouldn't you just go the the one by your house and step outside for a smoke? Maybe you like Atlantic City better? I have heard stranger things about smoking, but if true then that takes the cake.

we were on Celebrity last May 2018

you could still smoke in the casinos then

Celebrity has banned smoking in the casinos for at least the last the last 5 - 6 years and I think even longer than that. Are you sure it was Celebrity or could it have been a charter?

When we liked in Key West I had an aunt who was visiting from Germany. She smoked worse than a chimney. We wouldn't let her smoke in the house even if it was raining. Friends thought I was terrible. I didn't care what they thought. She ended up dying about 5 years later of lung cancer at 47 years old. 😿

....  Even if you have a smoking shelter it can only have at most a roof and one wall so that if you have to smoke you won't be too comfortable doing so, basically indoor and out door smoking rooms are illegal.

I wish our "indoor" rules were as rigid.

I don't know the smoking rooms at Tampa airport are pretty brutal.

In our town, they can build permanent walls and roof and leave one window open and they city lets them call that outside.

What are you going to do when ALL Casinos on ships become NON SMOKING?  This day will come.

According to the CDC, in 2017 only 14% of Americans smoke cigarettes.  Easily confirmed on their website.  Why does anyone, any company, any cruise line cater to 14% of the public while ignoring the preference of 86% ?  Doesn't seem like a great marketing decision to me.

CATS 🤣

We heard smokers say that banning smoking in restaurants & bars would kill business.... but it didn’t. Most smokers will adjust and non smokers will spend more time in casino. Smoke free casinos are coming. Just like smoke free cabins/balconies and all indoor venues have switched to non smoking!

Tell that to the Revel in Atlantic City. Plenty of businesses went under when it took effect, don’t kid yourself.     And yes I do not go out to dinner unless they have outdoor seating with smoking.

Atlantic city, and many of it's casino's crumbled under the 2008/2009 great recession, not because smoking was banned in casinos. Don't kid *your*self!

Revel went into bankruptcy years before the economy crashed and it was 100% due to no smoking. The bankruptcy judge made them go smoking in hopes of pulling them out of bankruptcy. Do your homework before you try making it up as you go along to suit your purpose.

Are you serious? Revel opened in Apr. of 2012, right smack dab in the middle of the recession, at the worst possible moment. The Revel, as well as many others were closing their doors because of the recession. Cigarette smoke? really? Perhaps you should do *your* homework.

I was in Atlantic City last weekend to see a show at the fancy Borgata.  The casino was full of smokers everywhere.  So no rule against it in AC.

Being an ex-smoker (8 years smoke free), I know all to well  how the smoking habit made me need a puff or two.

I was amazed when traveling through Atlanta airport that they provided indoor smoking rooms.

As I walked by them, they were filled with passengers.

I did not notice any cig smells when I walked by.

Safe travels.

As soon as those doors open to the Atlanta Airport smoking lounges, it's like a huge cloud of smoke comes out. God help you if you walk by as someone is entering or exiting. The smoke is overwhelming.

It seems that people who have ever smoked still tend to not notice the smell as much as those who never smoked.  I am a lifetime non-smoker and can smell it when someone gets off the elevator in our building and goes to the other side of the building.   My former co-worker, who smoked a lot, would never notice it at all.

On the other hand, if people were not spending money on cigarettes, they would have more money to spend in the casinos :classic_cool:  Yet, I agree with your rationale. Reckless people are probably more likely to take more risks at the tables.  That does make a little bit of sense.

Well...if there is one good thing about the smokers in the casinos...it's that it keep me out of there.  I am saving having to give part of my nest egg away to RCI.  🤗

That's quite an interesting rationale. Whether you smoke or not, you can certainly save your nest egg by not giving to Royal.   Meanwhile, your nest egg will sit unused when your lungs blacken and you wheeze your last few breaths. But hey, at least you aren't giving your money to Royal and potentially non-smoking casinos.

I know you are a disgusting person based on your ignorant comments earlier... but in this case how about read her post. She is not a smoker. She was making light that the smoke in the casinos keeps her out of the casino, and the money that would have otherwise been gambled, is saved.

Huh?  How could my lungs blacken and I wheeze?  I have never smoked a cigarette in my whole life and stay away from smokers.  Don't worry...  RCI gets a whole lot of my nest egg...I just don't contribute extra by gambling.  The choking smoke in the casino makes sure I stay away.

Guess I sure don't understand your comments.  🤨

That is a pretty poor comparison.

Atlantic City in general has been in flux for years.

Revel opened at one of the worst times right in the mist of major recession and built way out of league as well as poorly financed. It was a recipe for disaster. Add to that the legalization in neighboring states and Atlantic City being a dump one block from the boardwalk.
