jennybenny Posted October 20, 2019 #51 Share Posted October 20, 2019 We book as soon as the itinerary is released for our annual cruise 🙂 and additional cruises are added bonus and those get booked a year+ in advance. Most of the fun of a cruise comes in the planning stages. lol
Rncath11 Posted October 26, 2019 #52 Share Posted October 26, 2019 (edited) Truly an interesting discussion. Enjoy reading everyone’s ideas on when to book a cruise. I don’t cruise a lot so I am always learning on Cruise Critic. I recently booked a partial transit Panama cruise for Dec 2020. I booked early because of the itinerary. Only 409 days to go. lorri111 Posted October 26, 2019 #53 Share Posted October 26, 2019 Our longest lead in is our current one, to south America/Antarctica in Jan, which we booked 20 months out, as soon as it became available. It seemed a long way away at the time but we have enjoyed looking forward to it and doing lots of homework for it!
timandjudy Posted October 28, 2019 #54 Share Posted October 28, 2019 I guess the longest was just over a year - and its still not here, our cruise on the SKY in the baltic.
Cruiser_1977 Posted October 28, 2019 #55 Share Posted October 28, 2019 683 days! Booked Feb. 2019 for January 2021 🙂 $20 deposit and two promotions.
DrivesLikeMario Posted October 28, 2019 #56 Share Posted October 28, 2019 Booked for April & May of 2021 and those cruises are almost sold out. Only a few cabins left. I'm anxiously awaiting Oct. of 2021 itineraries to come out. I've found that the best prices are the minute the new itineraries open for most of my sailings in our particular category and itinerary so that's why I book so far in advance. I'm taking a guaranteed inside cabin because location doesn't matter to me. It will be my second time going solo while DH stays home to work. Princess had an irresistible deal--free airfare.

cmerun Posted November 4, 2019 #63 Share Posted November 4, 2019 (edited) Finding we are booking further out now- I am def a plan ahead person and we like to have everything paid before we travel- makes it much more relaxing!! Go-Bucks! Posted November 4, 2019 #64 Share Posted November 4, 2019 2 years. Now that I'm retired I don't have to do that unless I want a specific cabin or it's a high demand unique itinerary. I picked up my current cruise just 2 weeks before sailing and still got great cabins cuz it wasn't selling well.

Locked in suites and the best location IMO on ships. For me it’s Midship. I’ll probably just do 3 or 4 in 2020, and let the other bookings expire before final payment is due. Refundable FCD is a great deal IMO😀 Do you think it's fair to hold up cabins that you don't plan on using when someone else may want those cabins? Rare finoky Posted November 5, 2019 #66 Share Posted November 5, 2019 My furthest one out is Dec 13, 2021 on the Discovery.
fredflint Posted November 5, 2019 Author #67 Share Posted November 5, 2019 i agree if people keep booking multiple rooms and then cancel then princess will become like royal and only offer non refundable fares. It is nice not having to commit 800 bucks 2 years away, but I am planning on taking the cruise and at this point I am Always checking to see if anyone has cancelled. pcur Posted November 5, 2019 #68 Share Posted November 5, 2019 Depends on what I find for where I want to go. The date is not particularly important, but the itinerary is. I search for where we want to cruise, and pick the best price. That's usually a year out, but recently I've booked a month in advance, and cancelled on a year ahead. We got double the nights for the same price. I keep my signature updated with our future cruises, which go out to March 2021 right now.
ddcruisers93 Posted November 6, 2019 #69 Share Posted November 6, 2019 A year and a half on a couple cruises and 3 months for the closest.
New Cruiser Girl 2 Posted November 6, 2019 #70 Share Posted November 6, 2019 I find that if you want your cabin choice an category, you have to book way out. We've got one 300 days out booked and one 640 out. Lots to look forward to ~
