MaryAnn261 Posted October 22, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 22, 2019 Is the $7.95 service charge per item or per order? If you order food for 2 people is it double? TYIA.

ptf2009 Posted October 22, 2019 #4 Share Posted October 22, 2019 Isn't an 18% gratuity charge automatically added on to the $7.95?

Not on our last cruise on Explorer 10-5. You can get continental breakfast free and $7.95 for as much as you want hot American breakfast. We get room service breakfast every day and never have a problem getting anything or as much as we want off the menu. This was only our starters, the rest was in the cabin ready to bring out. Room service always ring us a couple of minutes before they turn up so we are ready and our food is hot. I always give $2-3 dollars cash tip as well. I think the “unusual” comment was in reference to not paying the 18% gratuity. 1

voyager70 Posted October 22, 2019 #15 Share Posted October 22, 2019 (edited) Initially it was a flat $7.95 per order. Then they decided to add an additional 18 percent service charge on top of the $7.95 service charge to make it $9.38 total. Continental breakfast remains complimentary. We didn't book any speciality restaurants while we were onboard but I'm sure I've seen people say they also don't add the service charge to the price like they do if you book onboard other ships. Yes I think so. There was no service chargers for chops grill or Giovanni's restaurant. Not sure why breakfast was $7.95 on Explorer but $9.40 on Independence. Breakfast on the balcony on a sea day is magical. But most days, up to the WJ is faster and more choices.
