Yeah, the Amex is pretty similar. You need to pay attention to the programs to maximize.

For me, I do get back my $550 and then some.

- Free Gold card for my wife and daughter (one benefit when they raised the fee to $550)

- All 3 of us get reimbursed for the $100 Global entry fee

- $200 in airline reimbursement (we use towards the early bird fee or buy e gift certificates)

- $200 in UBER (at first I hardly used this until I realized it also works with Uber eats)

- Gold level for Marriott and Hilton

- Status with auto rental companies (National Executive, Hertz Gold, Avis)

- Priority pass and lounges at airports

- Double warranty

- Amex offers $$$

- Membership rewards $$$

- Travel agency/concierge

I believe these are the main benefits for me and I do better than break even on the actual $$$'s.

I have been able to use the Saks Fifth Avenue credit for stuff I can use despite it being overpriced as there is a store in my neighborhood. Also I have used Shoprunner to get free shipping. I used the Centurion Lounge in Dallas this year. I am able to Uber for airport rides. I used it in Fort Lauderdale to the port. I will use the December Uber credit next month. I have been able to more than break even this year but they don’t make it easy. With the Chase Reserve card that I also have it is easier to break even every year when combined with a Freedom card than the Amex Platinum. I have to do some thinking with the Platinum. With the Reserve it just kind of happens.

Somebody needs to buy a gift certificate and see it that does in fact work.  😀

I don t need any casino credit.

Can you even buy Celebrity gift certificates on the site? Even if you could, I would be concerned about it ringing up with the correct merchant name required for this offer. Also, the only Celebrity gift cards I've ever seen have required you to use them for a new reservation and not thru a normal travel agent.

The best thing to do is buy OBC for your upcoming cruise. Then if you don't spend it all, get the money back at the end.

Yeah, after looking on Celebritycruises.com I don't even see that as an option.  I am not going to book until the spring so I can't buy OBC on a cruise I haven't booked.
Just trying to figure a way to get in on this by kicking the can down the road a bit.

Plus if you can't use a GC through a TA that would be a fail for my purposes.

by one.

take one for he team.

report what happens

I would but as MisterBill pointed out they don't even appear to be available on Celebritycruises.com.
It's certainly not going to work buying from giftcertficates.com
Plus not being able to use via a TA doesn't work for me.

I suspect any purchase in Cruise Planner would probably trigger the promo such as shore excursions.  You could probably scam the system by running up $500 in shore excursions then use a different card when checking in onboard then canceling the excursions while onboard.   I believe they credit the refund to your seapass account then would refund them to the card on file at the end of the trip.  I'm not recommending this but it would probably work.

I wonder whether purchasing $500 OBC would trigger the offer.  OBC doesn't appear as a purchase option in my Cruise Planner, but I found a link at https://www.celebritycruises.com/cruise-gifts/items-results?category=ONBDCR&collection=ONBDCR to purchase OBC in $25 increments.

You can always try buying $25 to start to verify that it posts from Celebrity Cruises before going for the full $500 (and I do think you can do it in multiple transactions). With HAL I actually bought $5 one time to make sure it posted correctly.

I thought the credit was only good for new cruise bookings, from what is being said here I guess I need recheck?

No, that is not accurate (new reservations only). It may be what the fine print says but you need to ignore some (or all) of the fine print on offers like these.

You can buy OBC.  Just make sure you use a different card on board in case you have any remaining balance.

I always use a debit card on board when I am expecting a refund. Probably not the best practice in terms of security, but if you use a credit card which offers a rebate on purchases, you lose them when a credit gets posted. Had that happen once with HAL -- I had changed the card on the online registration a few days before the cruise and did not check when on board (and HAL does not require you to show the card at check-in). Ended up getting a bunch of money sent back to a card that paid 3% on travel, causing me to lose 3% of the total. Ugh.

Of course the other option is to just get cash the last night of the cruise, if it's not too much (or if you don't care about carrying it around).

Not seeing this on my platinum AmEx.  Did take advantage of it the last time it was offered.

I'm thinking of getting that or one of those other credit cards with all these extras and status. The first time I use it I might slam it on the counter to hear that metal clang, Big Daddy Boss Toss, and all these offers. Have wait till 2020.

how long does it take for the Amex confirmation email to arrive usually?

and how easy is it to cancel the brought items in cruise planner?

(buy stuff from cruise planner, then cancel if the email confirmation doesnt come?)

I have AmEx Plat and got the email within 2 hours of paying.

well,24hrs later still havent gotten the email.

but the offer is longer on my list in my amex acct.

so im good, right?

Yes. But I'm assuming the charge already posted, right? 24 hours after the charge is kind of quick for it to post and the offer disappear.

Anyone have a link to the offer screen page? In the past, when someone posts a link, we are able to get it added to our cards. The page will prompt you to sign in with your own info, but then take you to the add screen. Even if initially the offer was not available on your particular card.
