Why are people in the Spinnaker lounge so much less disgusting than the new larger Observation Lounges?

Spinnaker is essentially the same kind of space, just smaller. However you don't see the vile barefoot masses conked out and drooling on themselves for hours on end. What's the difference? Does having the food right there make people more likely to encamp themselves?

Could be ..... The observation lounge on the Bliss during our Panama Canal cruise was like you described. It was full of corpses so it more resembled a hospital observation room than an observation lounge. The only thing being observed by most of these people sprawled out on the couches was the back of their own eyelids . We wanted to get out of the Panama heat and relax in there but every place to sit in there was full of people sleeping. It looked like a military field hospital. You would have thought the ship had a hull leak there was so much drool everywhere.

I've only been to the one on the Sun. But that one only had chairs and a few couches. While the observation lounge has a lot of couches and a lot of chaises and very few actual chairs.

Have a lot of seating designed to be lounged on and people will lounge. Add in the very common notion that shoes don't belong on furniture and it's no surprise people take their shoes off. Add that a lot of people wear sandals on a cruise and it's no surprise most are barefoot when they take their shoes off.

Also if it's like the Sun on other ships there's a lot less "front and center" window seating while the vast majority of seats on the observation lounge are.

FOOD

You put down "free" snacks, cookies, candy, cakes, and sandwiches and people will camp out forever.  Yes there are people sleeping in the OL but check out the tables next to them.  Full of half eaten cakes and desserts.

I sailed the Jewel and we spent so much time in Spinnaker and never saw anyone sleep in there.  Plenty of seating too.  I agree the views are similar.  I wonder if NCL changed the name from Spinnaker to Observation Lounge and offered a spread that the situation would be similar.

Pre-2015 dry dock, Gem's Bliss Lounge was just as inviting ...  No views whatsoever, lights on a dimmer ?? with dozens of loungers & oversized sofa and several beds  ... bring your own pillows, blankets & throws - optional.

Hardly anybody inside when we've roaming around, let alone seeing anyone taking a nice nap.  Remodeled since, last time we're there for the Latitude CruiseNext marketing seminar/reception - beds were gone.

Plus the Gem had video poker near the entrance off to the side, for your convenience, of course.
