Princess always refund port fees/taxes when you miss a port of call whether it be their fault or weather related and dont think the argument that they do it because it is separate on your cruise fare "holds water" because you have still paid them in whatever way it is done. I would imagine pando think their prices for the cruises as a whole are fairly competitive. If one knows what the t and c are when one books with them, surely you can't then say I don't agree with them. All the cruise lines if you take into account everything ..drinks..specialist dining..shuttles...etc will take the money of you one way or another. Some might return port taxes, from what they have taken off you in other ways.
hamish123 Posted December 9, 2019 #78 Share Posted December 9, 2019 Hi, we are due to join the Ventura on Tuesday 17th Dec for a back to back xmas and new year cruise. Just crossing fingers that the problems will be sorted by then.!! So sorry for those that have had the previous cruise cancelled. Apparently the people who are stuck in Tenerife will be getting a 50% refund.!!, not bad for a extra four days holiday.

sue54 Posted December 9, 2019 #80 Share Posted December 9, 2019 We are the unlucky ones who have had our cruise cancelled. It may seem a little disappointment, but we were taking my two disabled children, who were given the cruise when they visited santa last week. They are now inconsolable as they were both so very excited. I have rung everywhere I can think of to try to book something else, but at this time of year, everywhere is booked solid. All we can do is day trips.

It may not suit you but have you thought about something like Center Paris, they have good facilities and at this time of the year they do a winter wonderland with lots of activities. Just had a quick look and they do have some availability but depends where you live for journey length. There are also day flights to Lapland available this weekend, husky rides etc I hope you get something sorted out.

Because of the disabilities, we need wheelchair accessible and they are few and far between. All sold out at Centre Parks, Butlins, Alton Towers and a few more as well 😢

I can’t answer what P&O are doing but I interpreted it as a full refund for the cruise being cancelled (at 4 days notice) plus 20% off a future cruise. My point is that this is not very generous considering the short notice of the cancellation. When ours was cancelled at 20 days before sailing earlier this year we got a full refund of all monies paid (cruise fare which included a beverage package, and excursions etc) plus a future cruise credit for the same amount of the cruise fare paid plus $400 per person for flight changes. A travel agent or CMV themselves would be best to check with.

We are unlucky ones too. It is a refund for the cruise plus 20% of the cost of the cruise - NOT 20% off a future cruise like I originally thought. I agree, not good enough. Other cruise lines offer far more for cancellations. We are so upset as it was a family Christmas cruise for us.

That’s a good question. 20% off as a general rate could be pretty valuable if it were to be applied to a long cruise or top cabin grade. 20% off based on the cost of the short cruise probably would not even cover the difference for those who booked early and got a good discount or obc. The letter says 20% off any cruise booked before Dec 2021. Sothere will be two new cruise releases before that date.

beachmad123 Posted December 10, 2019 #95 Share Posted December 10, 2019 Latest update we hope to be leaving tomorrow that's still to be confirmed. From our point of view po have handled the situation very well and are doing everything possible to help people. We will be staying on and have had the unique opportunity to visit the island using the local buses in the lovely sunshine. If it wasn't for this unexpected breakdown I very much doubt we would be returning with a sun tan as the weather up until this point was very hit and miss

Presumably you would have to make contact to activate the extension or at least inform the insurer, (you have to contact when using the medical element over a certain amount). Every policy will potentially be a little different. Every policy is different but it would be a poor one that didn't extend until your return home, that is whole point of the insurance. I would not expect any policy to withdraw cover when you are delayed in such circumstances.

AndyMichelle Posted December 10, 2019 Author #100 Share Posted December 10, 2019 I just hope the rumours on FB that Ventura will be out of action for 4 weeks are not true as we are due on her for New Year... We might have to do a tour of the UK knocking on your doors for a bit of dinner... 😊 Andy
