Your very welcome everybody!

Facial recognition....when you embark around the security area there is this computer thing that captures your face sort of like taking a photo of you, when you get off the ship you pass by these monitors and it will scan you and find your face and it just takes a matter of seconds and your done and leave outside the terminal.

Great positive reviews! Thanks for sharing.

We are on the Edge in Feb - looking for some quiet shady spots to relax during the day (we are in an inside stateroom, part of an experiment). I know I'm going to spend some time in Eden reading and relaxing, looking for outside shady spots, doesn't have to be close to the pool, close to drinks is preferred!

In a recent post by Jim_Iain he reported ample shade:

I read many with this concern prior to boarding.    My observations have been the opposite.   There has always been seating available both on the pool deck as well as other decks with full shade.   At least on the last cruise the shaded areas were almost always totally vacant, so must have had a lot of sun lovers aboard.     I would have to say it might be more difficult if you want to sit directly adjacent to the pool as these areas only get shad according to the location of the sun.

Here’s a couple examples of finding shade.

If in suite class plenty of shade unless you want to sit right next to pool

I see the photos above show shade - guess it depends on the position of the ship and the sun.  There is NO covering above the chairs.  Shade is very important to us.  We are used to sitting on the lounge chairs that are actually covered near the windows, and not far from the pool on the S class.  Hope we find the shade we want during our 2 week sailing on the Edge.

We started out in a bit of shade for lunch time, but the  service was so slow, the sun beat down on us! No escape.  It  looks like an easy fix to add a bit more shading, esp if they move some of the curved  benches that face the table area!! (No one seems to sit there,,,)

I appreciate the photos.  I’m not interested in being by the pool...I was sad to see no shade (unless due to the angle of the sun) at the Sunset Bar.  I’m just going to have to find other Edge favorites to replace that one.  Eden, here I come!

hh - what about sitting in the Solarium???

bon voyage

Thanks everyone for the replies!

Vitaminsea - what time of year were those pictures taken? The one man has on a jacket, and all the chairs are empty, so I’m thinking transatlantic, maybe?

i don’t care about the pool one way or the other and we do spend time in the Solarium, although I think the wooden loungers with the pads are the worst, especially on a crowded sea day.

We are in an inside, so no suite amenities for us. Our recent trip - thanksgiving- was in a Royal suite, so I plan on posting a comparison of bare bones to royal treatment!

I was hoping, looking at deck plans, to find some shady nooks in the rooftop garden, so maybe, maybe not heat?

I was so impressed by it all - it never felt crowded even though it was a full ship.  We were able to confirm our Select dining times in advance and were seated on time every night.  The entertainment was TOP NOTCH and they really elevated their game here.  Plenty of evening options....  Loved Eden - what a nice quiet area during the day and the bar staff was so personable here. Eden Cafe for breakfast and/or lunch was our little secret - yum!  It is a free venue but everyone probably thought it was a pay venue, so it was never crowded.

We felt the food quality was outstanding - the only disappointments were food quality in the Sushi restaurant and the interactive animated experience was cute but not worth an extra 55.00 per person because the food quality was awful the night we attended.  We wished we would have tried the Fine Cut Steakhouse or Eden dinner instead.

The staff made this trip and this was my first cruise with Captain Kate.  Her Q and A activity was truly an education in itself, she is so personable and smart.  When we disembarked in Ft Lauderdale, there was Captain Kate (we called her Sandra Bullock because she looks just like her)  in her skirt and high heels, personally thanking every passenger (along with the Cruise Director and Hostess)  she must have had to stand and shake hands for hours

Boarding and Customs in Ft Lauderdale were a dream.  We used the early walk-off option and carried our bags but no joke - it took minutes - we were truly amazed.

Do not be afraid to try the Edge or Edge class ships!   We loved it.  Such a chill vibe everywhere - beautiful artwork - felt more like a deluxe resort than a cruise ship.  We are a couple in their 60's and would bring our families of all ages aboard in the future....every age group would enjoy!

I agree with your review and the review of the OP. We were also on this sailing  of the Edge and had a wonderful time. I thought the ship was beautiful and our Infinite balcony room seemed larger and the bathroom certainly was larger than other Celebrity ships. My husband did not love the infinite balcony, but I likeed the way it added space to the room.

This was the quickest embarkation and debarkation I have ever experienced and it was a pleasure. Having captain Kate outside the ship saying goodbye to everybody was really a nice touch, and I do agree that she looks like Sandra Bullock!

I thought the food was much better in the dining rooms than previous cruises, And I loved the four small dining rooms rather than one large one. Our sushi meal was also not the greatest and I don’t know if I would go back there again. Our meal in Fine cut steakhouse was delicious, And our dinner in Eden was one of the best meals we’ve ever had in our 22 Celebrity cruises. I found the entertainment during dinner to be very pleasant and non-intrusive.

I was disappointed in the casino, I found it to be small and closed in. I was also disappointed that the minimum blackjack bet was $15. This is only happened to us once before  and it was during a holiday cruise. Normally they’re at least two $10 tables and $15 table was more than I was comfortable bedding. I hope this is not a trend on all the ships. I did enjoy the fact that cocktails are complimentary While you are playing slots or table games since I do not get a beverage package. Everything is not included but I either have a simple cocktail or wine and both were included.

We loved our cruise are already booked for a cruise on the Apex.

On the December 15 cruise there were many loungers in the shade on the deck above the pool. Very few of the shade seats were taken. I will say however that the Sunset bar and the dining area below it that was outside we’re often times completely in the sun.
