Pictures taken between Monday, January 27 and Sunday, February 2.

Rules: See above

That's it. This isn't a contest.

All photos taken this week are welcome (not just cruising).

Prizes will not be awarded. Discovering the joy of photography is the prize.

The idea is to get folks out using their cameras for more than vacations and toddler birthdays.

Post one. Post many. Up to you.

Have fun with your camera and share your fun with others!

My camera club is located in the suburb of South Melbourne and our first Sunday outing was in the streets around out building, This included the South Melbourne Markets and various historical buildings.

Our semi-sub excursion on Curacao was over and our boat was almost back to the dock when the captain spotted a large pod of dolphins so he turned the boat and gave chase.  He was able to get fairly close to the pod but even so it was difficult to get pictures because you never knew where they would surface.  That was a great end to an already great excursion.  I believe these are Long-Snouted Spinner Dolphins.  I was happy to get a few good photos.

We were in Barbados on Feb 1st and there was a tall sailing ship, the Royal Clipper, which is a passenger vessel in port.  That evening another tall sailing ship, the Sorlandet which is a training ship, was waiting outside the port for our ship to leave before she entered.  It would be interesting to take a short cruise on a tall sailing ship.

A few shots from the Everglades on Sunday, Feb 2nd:

You can barely make out the bird here, but for me, it was still awesome to even get this much of a shot of him - the last time I saw a cedar waxwing in my area was about 7 years ago, so it was an exceedingly rare sighting for me, even in the shade and behind a bunch of leaves:

Our biggest woodpecker - the pileated...compared to most North American woodpeckers which are about the size of a blue jay, these are the size of a large crow or raven:

A red-shouldered hawk circling above me:

A tricolor heron flying down low by the water:

When our friends came over for dinner last week, they brought a small gift for each of us. Kim got some perfume and I got a bar of Beer Soap. Being naturally suspicious of everyone's motives, I suspected they were trying to tell us something. Anyway, the bar of beer soap landed in the luggage for our sailing on the Liberty of the Seas and ended up actually being used. It turned out to be an excellent alternative to the super generic body wash/shampoo milked from the dispenser on the shower wall or even the upgraded amenities we get from the loyalty program. I had no idea what to expect and was pleasantly surprised by both the smell and general quality of the bar. To top it all off, Kim told me it smelled manly. I like the sound of that.

Next to Godliness
