Emirates A380 First class

Nice gift! Pity it’s a short overnight flight...hopefully you have F on the way back too!

Emirates have a newly renovated lounge at JFK, but there’s no separate first class side. You can board directly from the lounge if you’re flying from gate A6.

Emirates FC on the A380 is pretty decent but as you’d expect for any seat that’s been around for almost 20yrs it’s not exactly world beating. Food and beverage is pretty decent but you’ll probably want to sleep for as long as possible. There is a shower onboard if you fancy something that’s a bit of a novelty.

Does Emirates fly nonstop from JFK to Milan?

it's what is called a 'Fifth Freedom' flight.   JFK/New York - MXP/Milan - DXB/Dubai.

Back in the day when aircraft had shorter range, flights like JFK-DXB weren't possible (they are now), so airlines had to make a technical stop half way for fuel. At times they were also granted passenger rights on the other segments, despite neither destination being in the airlines 'home country'.  Another good example is Cathay operate (although it's ending soon)  HKG/Hong Kong - YVR/Vancouver - JFK/New York; and for years Pakistan operated ORD/Chicago - BCN/Barcelona - KHI/Kirachi; which was a very good way for mid-westerners to reach Barcelona.

If you both are passengers, just be aware that each seat on the Emirates 380 in first is really a cubicle, and to talk to the person on the other side (we had the two middle 1st class cabins) you still have to stand up and peek across the wall.

The shower is definitely worth it, it is spacious and they will leave you plenty of time, just talk to a cabin attendant early on. And you will get a pyjama in its own bag. The last one was in a felted cover, reusable as laptop cover. Nice.

I like the bar at the end of business class, which is of course also available for first class passengers. It gives a bit of a walk, there is an attendant all the time, they have snacks, make mugs of tea or give you other drinks, whatever you feel like, and you can chat even to other passengers. Try it out.

At least for those who had a strong sense of "adventure" and high risk tolerance.

This is the airline that had a 777 takeoff with more passengers than seats.  So passengers stood in the aisle for over 1700 miles.  And where they sacrificed a goat before a flight "for safety".  And more.

Hope they they didn't barbeque it afterwards.

Actually the goat was after an ATR crash wasn't it ?

Although in different circumstances, other airlines have done this too. In 1974, QF flew 327 passsengers in a 707 (VH-EAH, a -300, 173 seats, all economy) and 673 passengers in a 747 (VH-EBB, a -200, 32+339 seats plus lounge). And in 1991, LY flew between 1,078 and 1,122 passengers (sources differ) in a 747. But you wouldn't expect this in regular airline service.

Has the OP been advised to remember to bring sunglasses for the cabin interior?

Yes.  There was an ATR42 crash, and when the type was reintroduced to service, they had the sacrifice before the first flight.

I assume they gave the goat to the catering department?
