Pleated skirts

A number of the young women on our recent Seaside cruise wore very nice pleated skirts; satiny-looking fabric, graduated pleats that allowed the skirt to flare out at the hem, knee-length or a bit longer.

I had never seen this style before, except in one tv commercial.

Is this a more European or South American style?  Have you seen them in stores in the US?

we noticed many versions while in Milan. Some were chiffon, some polyester blend. The most striking looking was a navy blue mid length knife pleat. Turns out she was the designer and it was fashion week.

Here in Australia both the satin and chiffon pleated skirts have been available for about 2 years. It is a lovely style and I love the swish of the skirt when you dance.
