Ovation misses Dunedin

Ovation has missed Dunedin. Must have been some bad weather around the southern end of NZ as after visiting Fiordland they have headed to Wellington along the West coast of NZ.

Its a tough entry into that harbour when the weather bad.

Just checked the Royal Albatross cam and it looks a clear bright day at the entrance to the harbour ,but very strong winds blowing .

I saw that Ruby Princess had made it into Port Chalmers. But she had cruised in from the north.

A ship the size of Ovation is hard to control at low speed in severe cross winds. Combined with the shallowness of Port Chalmers it's even trickier to navigate. I recall in Dec 17, Ovation taking a long, long while to tie up in Napier due to crosswinds.

Ovation was due to berth at 5.30am , at which time it was blowing 40kn at Taiaroa heads. by the time Ruby approached it was down to 20knots.

Ovation is a much larger ship as well.

We have just arrived in the Celebrity Solstice. A beautiful day and we had a dream sail through the sounds yesterday.

Port Chalmers is a really laid back and friendly village.
