Hi all,

Just back today from 12 nights aboard the lovely Aurora to Norway. Will do a more detailed report but had a really good cruise. Embarkation was a breeze, entertainment great, food fine, Aurora in good fettle and disembarkation a doddle.

First washing already in the machine...

Welcome home!  Good to hear that you had a great time and look forward to reading your report.  We did a similar cruise on Aurora a few weeks ago and totally agree with your comments above.

Back on her in October - can't wait!

Looking forward to reading about how it all went.  We're on board next week.  Nine years since we've been on Aurora!

We’re on her in November, first cruise for nearly 5 years so those of you on her between now and then, please leave her in the good shape that you find her in.

You’ve just described my Mum to a tee. However, in her case she refused any help even when she was dying which made her last days very traumatic for us. In fact had she not collapsed in the street and a neighbour called an ambulance I would never known she was so poorly.

Getting a phone call from a paramedic late on a Friday evening was just the start of her refusing to go to hospital for 3 days despite several ambulances and GP visits. All I wanted for her was a comfortable passing which she would only get in hospital as she had a ruptured duodenum, sepsis, and aspirated pneumonia.

I’m all for being independent but not to the extent my Mum was in her final days and the impact that left with her family in the aftermath of her passing.

So sorry you had to go through that. It’s great to be I dependent  but sometimes they don’t help themselves.

They made that generation tough (my parents born in the 30’s) In the last 5 years my Mum has survived stomach cancer and a stay in hospital last year when they said don’t expect her to come out!

Re Aurora I will be onboard for the first time next March, I’m only doing short cruises at the moment. We should have gone on her in 2014 but it was cancelled due to the big refit when she had the flag painted on the bow. Looking forward to finally getting onboard!

Lovely photos. Is that Lake Windemere by any chance? Will be visiting the area soon and we’re keen to do a lake cruise. Trying to work out the best route. Any recommendations anyone? Thanks.

How many are watching Northern Soul at the Proms ?

We are reminiscing again, tonight it is about the soul nights at The Kings Hall in Stoke and Wigan Casino.  We wouldn't be able to dance for hours now.

Were any of the northerners on here soul fans ?

Not personally a fan of the music but I started my teaching career in Wigan in 1975 and was fascinated by the fifth formers’ tales of all-nighters at Wigan Casino and loved to watch them dance at school discos - just fascinating for the moves they could make!  This was before the days of elaborate Proms of course.

Lovely photos of one of the nicest areas of the UK.  When we were younger we spent many weekends walking up there.

Your pic of the RAF jet reminded me of our bowling match at Leek last year when the Red Arrows flew over the bowling green and tipped their wings before treating us to red vapour trails, we thought that they must have run out of the blue and white vapour wherever they had been displaying.

We stayed near Windermere in 2021 the main place was Bowness but it’s very very busy and we had trouble parking there some days. We were staying near a stop called Lakeside so we decided to do the cruise to Bowness and back. That worked well but I wished we’d stayed longer because everyone starting queuing about half hour before the boat back 😂 This was still covid times so we had to book the boats in advance, I would have liked to stay longer. I would think you don’t need to book now.
Years ago I think we stopped at Ambleside but I can’t remember much about it!

I was actually thinking of the cruise itself, not getting there! There are 3 coloured routes for the lake cruises and I’m trying to decide whether to board at Ambleside, Lakeside or Bowness.

Never been to Wales!! Then again, I don’t think I’ve been to Essex either - not to stay, might have driven through.

I remember the Dartford Crossing, now that was a mission!

Where are you actually staying? Bowness is the main town on Windermere so I don’t think it matters which route you take really. We travelled from Lakeside as our apartment was near there and Bowness itself was hard to park in some days. This was July though and most people were holidaying in the UK so it hopefully won’t be  so busy  when you go. We were so lucky with the weather and it was my favourite day of the week.
