The Amsterdam actually got into Manila harbor last night.  The dining room manager posted a video of all the ships surrounding her.  Definitely very strange seeing all those cruise ships like that.

Linda R.

Tiny correction on that; Amsterdam arrived in Manila Bay (not harbor) off Manila and is now part of a cluster of no less than 23 cruise ships 😉

Keep an eye on this webcam for Zaandam's arrival at IJmuiden, the entrance way, via the Noordzeekanaal, to the port of Amsterdam, although she might just stay at IJmuiden and not go all the way in. Bit of a difference from her entrance into Port Everglades last month

Surrounded by tankers, it appears. Perhaps waiting for a berth at IJmuiden

Using them as shelter!

Maybe as she is Eastwards of a lot of the tankers she is just waiting for a berth (as you state) or the pilots have a queue of waiting vessels.

My nomination for Quote of the Day:  "We've always believed that music has the power to bring us closer together and we need that now more than ever".  Stolen from this week's edition of HAL's Lincon Center Living Room.

Finally in her homeport ! About 150-200 people were on the quay to welcome her. Captain responded with a lot of horn blowing. The old ss Rotterdam gave her salute by blowing her horn when the (nieuw) Statendam passed by. It was nice to see HALflags , some homemade banners and of course seeing cruise friends and some staff , who came back just last week on the Regal Princess, and hear their stories.
Of course I’d rather be on a HAL ship sooner than later but for now it was the next best thing.

In IJmuiden , visiting cruiseships usually dock in the IJmondhaven where a makeshift arrival hall can be put up. The more suitable berths are the ferry terminals of DFDS , also outside the locks. But both berths there are still occupied by the King - and Princess Seaways of DFDS. They are normally on the IJmuiden - Newcastle run , but that service is suspended untill at least june 3rd. According to a HAL staff member I talked to last night when waiting for the Statendam , there are 700 crew onboard who have to disembark. Non-Dutch will be transported to Schiphol for their flights.

Although the situation is completely different, last night when waiting for the Statendam took me back to when I was a kid and waiting for my father to return on a HAL ship. There were a lot of family members last night waiting and waiving to crew onboard and excited when they spotted a loved one.
As a line in a Dutch tv show goes : “ at least we still have the pictures “ .....  ( gelukkig hebben we de foto’s nog ).

Nice toots! Lovely to see her sailing in so majestically.

Just to point out that there is a small video in post #37 and the link is between the two images!

Somehow the video doesn’t show the first frame , just the “ play” button.

The Statendam left port about 20 minuten ago to go to an anchorage off the coast near Scheveningen ( Close to Den Haag ) .
