azbaby8062 Posted May 28, 2020 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2020 How was it traveling in June/ July? I am a teacher so traveling during the school year is difficult. I am looking to travel June/ July 2022. What was it like traveling there during this time of year? I realize it is colder during this time of the year. Are you able to swim or is the water too cold? Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Aus Traveller Posted May 28, 2020 #2 Share Posted May 28, 2020 In Southern Australia it will be cold in winter. Depending on where you come from you might think it is very cold. However, Northern Australia is lovely in winter and the water would be warm enough to swim.
christodan Posted May 28, 2020 #3 Share Posted May 28, 2020 And by Northern Australia it would have to be far north. I went to Noosa, Queensland in winter and I found it way too cold to swim.
The_Big_M Posted May 28, 2020 #4 Share Posted May 28, 2020 It's a great (peak) time to visit Ayers Rock - and the Snowy Mountains though.
SinbadThePorter Posted May 28, 2020 #5 Share Posted May 28, 2020 For June/July I wouldn't think it worth trying to swim south of the Whitsunday Islands. The further north the better, so if you want a swim then Cairns would be the obvious destination. Cairns is slightly closer to the equator than Kingston , Jamaica. Bubbeh Posted May 28, 2020 #6 Share Posted May 28, 2020 Whether it will be too cold will depend very much on where you want to go and what you want to experience from a tourism point of view. The top of Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia are likely to be warm but are you interested in these locations or do you just want to go to the big cities like Sydney / Melbourne? Rare MicCanberra Posted May 28, 2020 #7 Share Posted May 28, 2020 Water temp will be a bit cooler but likely much warmer than anything NC has in December /January. I find if you go north of NSW, it is probably okay for a dip but not for a prolonged swim.
Rare lyndarra Posted May 29, 2020 #8 Share Posted May 29, 2020 Years ago we would go to the Queensland Sunshine Coast for Aug/Sep school holidays (Mooloolaba). We would go swimming wearing just our usual togs and wonder why all the locals were wearing wet suits!

Rare MicCanberra Posted May 29, 2020 #10 Share Posted May 29, 2020 Depending on where you normally live, the water temp may be nice, fine or too cold. For me in the south (colder areas) of Australia, the water is nice, for those who live in the area, it is likely too cold.
