It is good to read, isn't it? I feel for you lot over there across the Channel and big pond longing to be somewhere on a river. One day, Lois, the day will come.

Ooh, I am getting all sobby now. Better go and stroke the cats...

The Nickovision has successfully completed her journey and the MS Savor has also arrived in Düsseldorf. The Nickovision as the first post lock down river cruise ship to sail, attracted a lot of attention along the way. Here is a German report from Wertheim where the passengers were greeted by the mayor: https://www.nokzeit.de/2020/06/09/flusskreuzfahrt-mit-fieberthermometer/

Thank you for reporting at that link to the newspaper article. It shows certainly some attention for Nicko Cruises and indirect advertisment. But it also mentions the dire reality. 34 pax on a 220 capacity ship will not keep the industry afloat in the long run, neither will the prospect to fill half of the capacity during corona-times.

I think one can only see those two first sailings as "test runs". Just like the hotelier in a recent report by Deutsche Welle said: his hotel (in Mallorca) is having a financially disastrous week during the test run with German holiday makers. But it is supposed to show that holidays are safe and hopefully will give confidence to guests. And it shows how the measures work in practice, for all of Spain to learn from.

But as you say, even at 50 percent capacity - as the rules are at the moment as implemented by Scylla on their fleet - the industry cannot be sustained. Half capacity will not work for very long.

Here is an article that addresses the industry's problems - ocean cruising, but the basic issue of economic viability applies to river cruising as well, of course: https://www.dw.com/en/can-the-cruise-ship-industry-keep-coronavirus-at-arms-length/a-53824240

Me too;  I was supposed to take my first river cruise in May.  Now I am in limbo waiting to see when the river cruises start again.  I got all excited for our first one; and the rug got pulled.  Hopefully we can book something for next year

you are correct;  it is all what if's;  that is why I just sit and wait to see how things are in the fall.  I mean; half the year is already gone;  what happened to 2020?
