A thank you to all who contribute to keeping this thread a happy place to visit each day. We will celebrate 2 of the 3 days today but will not be eating outside as the wasps are the worst they have ever been. Sending positive vibes to those on Roy's care list and congrats to those celebrating. Good luck!

ger_77 Posted August 31, 2020 #30 Share Posted August 31, 2020 Good morning, thanks for the Daily! We love eating outside - our deck is perfect for it, with windows that we can slide open and leave that way from April through September. Trail mix is something I always bring with us on trips - you never know when you're going to end up at an airport where everything is shut down, and you haven't eaten in a long while. It also helps DH who sometimes gets low blood sugar from time to time. The menu suggestion sounds good, but last night Honey Bunny mentioned that we haven't had rotisserie chicken for a while, so I'm pretty sure we'll be picking one of those up when we go for groceries today. Chicken, along with dilled potatoes and a vegetable will round out our dinner tonight. And wine. Prayers for all who need them, and even for those who don't think they do. Toasts and cheers for the celebrations today. Be well, stay safe! Smooth Sailing! 🙂🙂🙂 Gerry

I first had it on a HAL Shorex in Valpo. We visited a family owned and run museum where we had lunch (that included a tasty sandwich and a slice of this pie.) It always brings back good memories. The white topping is sour cream with a little powdered sugar. You can substitute key lime and get a good pie with a solid set of you choose. DH likes it. Reminds me of an incident I had in the mid 80's. I was driving a Van Pool and had moved the spare tire from under the seat where it cut into passenger foot space to a rack on the back door and also replaced the dinky bumper with a step bumper. One morning I got pulled over by the local police and the officer came up and said "you have no back license plate". I got out and checked and pointed to the tag in the space in the center of the new bumper. Oops. Roy Edited August 31, 2020 by rafinmd 6

"Vegemite is salty, slightly bitter, malty, and rich in glutamates – giving it an umami flavour similar to beef bouillon." The flavour of both spreads can be summed up in two words: 'strong' and 'salty'. ... And there is a slight difference in taste — Vegemite is more intensely gobsmacking than Marmite, which has a milder flavour and even a slight sweetness compared to its meatier Aussie cousin. 3

Rare Copper10-8 Posted August 31, 2020 #44 Share Posted August 31, 2020 The bridge of Statendam (the former "S"-class, now Vasco da Gama for Cruise & Maritime Voyage who are in trouble) with one Quartermaster at the helm and the other acting as Lookout. Two navigators on the port side bridge wing. No "hand steering" yet because, when that occurs, the QM would have a senior navigator (bridge officer) standing next to him. Also, no pilot on the bridge yet for departure Machfud, one of the long time-HAL Quartermasters from Indonesia doing his job standing behind the wheel - which is quite small; Great guy! Rare Copper10-8 Posted August 31, 2020 #46 Share Posted August 31, 2020 (edited) Time for a MOB (Man Overboard) Drill in Puerto Chiapas, Mexico. This is Dutch Cadet Officer Martijn, wearing a survival suit, in his role as MOB "victim" Unlike the Vista class and up, the former "S"-class and (still two) "R"-class ships do not have a fast rescue boat. As a result, lifeboats #1 and #2, who are smaller and faster than the remaining lifeboats, are used as rescue boats. When the MOB alarm sounds, it generates a response by several teams. First of all, the crew of one of the rescue boats (commander, asst. commander, two helpers, one techie and a medical person) will come running to boat deck to their assigned location underneath lifeboat #1 or #2. The Bosun and the crew that lowers to boat to the surface will also be there, as will the 1st (safety) officer, the doctor, another nurse and the stretcher team, as well as the Emergency Response Team (ERST), headed by the SECO, whose job it is to provide crowd control by cordoning off the area around the rescue boat and providing a clear passage to the nearest elevator and the medical center. The rescue boat will be lowered and will proceed to the MOB to take him from the water and return him to the ship and, subsequently, the medical center where he will be assessed Stretcher Team and 1st officer The stretcher team is manned by personnel from the Housekeeping Dept and headed by an Asst. Housekeeper MOB drill debrief on the bridge incl. the rescued MOB Edited August 31, 2020 by Copper10-8 12

IMHO Marmite is superior to Vegemite. However the best product ever has recently been introduced: Peanut Butter with Marmite. It's the most deliciious thing spread on toast (sour dough for preference) and sometimes I mash a banana with it too. Ambrosia!!!
Rare Copper10-8 Posted August 31, 2020 #48 Share Posted August 31, 2020 The O.B. (Officer Bar), the "Blue Anchor," incl. faux fireplace and (of course) a dart board, on Statendam located on B-Deck. Most of the OB's on the "S" and "R_-class ships had/have a British or Irish pub theme. The little food service area serves breakfast and lunch. 14
summer slope Posted August 31, 2020 #49 Share Posted August 31, 2020 Good morning Rich, Roy, and all our Daiy-ites. We eat outside often, unless it's in the 90's like today. Yum on the trail mix. And I think motorist consideration is lacking now-a-days. The quote is funny. I'll bring Flank Steak to the picnic!! Thanks for the suggestion. LOL Have a great Monday, social distance and wear your mask.
