Does anyone know why the Gem is about $700 a person more than the Breakaway or Joy for a Cruise to New England. I have checked the Club Balcony Suites for all and that is what it looks like.  The Gem on 10/15/21 out of Boston is $2049. The Joy out of NYC on 10/2/21 is $1279 and the Breakaway out of NYC on 10/17/21 is $1329.

While I can't answer your question directly, I have noticed that over the years  the Gem from NYC was  almost always more expensive than other NCL ships.  Too bad, as I love the Gem and not the bigger ships.

it could be a simple simple and demand thing. The Breakaway and Joy has more passenger capacity so they are able to reduce the price per person whereas the Gem has a smaller capacity so you need to price that a little higher

I agree with you, more capacity means cheaper cabin prices for the same voyage.

Perhaps, since the cruise is only a year away, some like me are wary of what the economy (hotels, restaurants, etc.) will be like in NY for travellers.   Between pandemic issues and lack of law enforcement, crime, etc. - unsure that we will return to NYC, cancelled our Bermuda trip in April on the Joy that we were looking so forward to a while back.

We always loved sailing out of Manhattan, past the Statue of Liberty - but it's not something we would consider again - at this point.

I'm one of those that are now wary of NYC (and I've never been there). I 100% agree with you for the reasons you stated. I believe there will eventually be a vaccine for the virus but is there a vaccine for all the crime (looting, shootings, anarchy/mayhem, etc)? And NYC defunded their police?

Makes me sad, mad & disappointed. I was considering a 12 day southern caribbean cruise out of Bayonne, NJ on another cruise line and was planning on multiple pre/post cruise days staying at a hotel in the Bayonne, NJ area so that I could tour NYC (Statue of Liberty, 911 Memorial, Broadway, Times Square, etc). But not anymore unfortunately. It's no wonder that residents of NYC are fleeing like rats off a sinking ship.

Apples & Oranges
Gem = one way cruise up the St Lawrence seaway ending in Quebec City.

Joy = N.Y.  To N.Y. with a couple of stop on the Canadian coast.

Thank You but it is not Apples & Oranges as the 10/15/21 cruise is Boston to Boston. I have made my decision and I am going with the larger ship. I will save $1500 for the casino!!

Better explanation - DIFFERENT (7) day trips

GEM doing B2B

outbound - Boston Portland or Bar Harbor Halifax Sydney PEI Saguenay (La Baie) Quebec City

returning - Quebec City Sydney Halifax St. John Bay Bar Harbor Boston

GEM (One) 7 day cruise (A Good Value 6 ports 1 sea day !) *****

Boston PEI Sydney Halifax St. John Bay Bar Harbor Portland Boston

***** More ports more port fees taxes

BREAKAWAY doing 5 and 7 day round trips out of NYC

5 day - New York Bar Harbor Halifax New York

7 day - New York Portland Bar Harbor Halifax St. John Bay New York

Different fruits - different cruises

The size of the ship may be a factor in volume pricing

-AWAY class ships 4000 - GEM class 2700

In my opinion it all depends on the country of your origin, and the pricing policy is totally different in this respect. I would assume that the only major difference is from where you do the operation and book the ticket. I think its all for the travel companies and how they manage their business

We don't want to cruise into or out of NY either....at least not right now.
