Port or Starboard?

Yes, and I do not believe that the port side is smoking while starboard is not, as I stated people do drift over to starboard.

LGW59, you need to go back a few more posts for dkjretired original post that phoenix dream replied to that started the polite exchange.  He has posted many times that smoking is on the port side and no one ever has disagreed before.  His point was maybe someone from the port side smoking area walked over to the starboard side and that caused an odor on that side of the ship.

You are correct that the vast majority of smoking areas on S Class ships are on the port side of the ship.  The only exception that I have experienced is the Mast Bar on Deck 14.  As noted in Fouremco's photo in Post 23, there are clearly guests smoking at tables that have ash trays for them to utilize.  These are not guests who wandered over to the Mast Bar.

Whether the ash trays are there or not, that portion is not supposed to be smoking but in effect it turns into one. That is what I said from the start.  For this to be going on this long about a frivolous point proves there's not cruising and we have nothing else to converse about.  I stand 100% behind my original statement.  Reality please.

Believe what you want.  My reality says something different.  I tend to use the eye ball test.  When I have seen crew putting those ash trays out in the morning when I am walking the track it tells me that this is a designated smoking area.  You are also correct about this being a frivolous discussion, but again in reality it is better than discussing Covid-19.

• Smoking is prohibited in cabins, balconies, dining venues, casinos, theaters, hallways, elevators, and corridors
•  Smoking is permitted only in designated indoor and outdoor areas, including the port side of the pool deck and sundecks on each ship
•  Cigar and pipe smoking is allowed only in designated sections of open decks.

Reality is that, on S-class ships, the Mast Bar is now a designated smoking area and passengers have been provided ash trays accordingly. There was a change made a few years ago, and to state that they are "not meant to be smoking" is no longer accurate. As a non-smoker, I would prefer to have the Mast Bar revert to being a non-smoking area, but my preferences and Celebrity's policies don't always agree.

 

This change has been the subject of a number of past threads, one of which included this photograph showing the smoking areas, including the Mast Bar, on the Solstice:

For the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, our ships are designated as non-smoking; however, we recognize that some of our guests smoke. My apologies for getting this thread refocused on smoking.  I thought it was useful for new people that might be sensitive to second-hand smoke to realize that smoking is permitted on Deck 5 port side and this smoke can affect those in balconies above the smoking area.

Same experience as most others.  All three of these docked port side on the Silhouette in 2018.  Of course, Grand Cayman is a tender port so it probably won't matter.  We were in a port side stateroom.

Grand Cayman is a tender port.  So it doesn’t matter there.   The other ports depend on the maintenance that needs to be performed or other ships being there.
