Final Payment due 12/20 for 2/21 Cruise. What is NCL doing now if they cancel?

We're like many who have to decide if we want to make final payment for a cruise that we know will not happen.  We're booked on the Pride for a 2/6 sail date.  If we make final payment and NCL cancels what are they providing currently in the terms of FCC or discount for future cruise.  Trying to decide if we want to make final payment or just cancel.  Is it worth it.  We do plan to rebook the cruise for 2022, and the prices are so much higher a discount might be worth making the final payment.  I know there's always the possability of bankruptcy, but not too worried about that issue.  Thanks for any guidance.

My opinion,  I would cancel, and take the money and run!  You can always rebook a new cruise later on.

I agree.  I only did a L&S on Royal because I booked a year ago with a NR deposit for a Nov 2020 Oasis cruise.  If I had the option for a refund you can bet I would have taken that.  I have no intentions of booking another cruise, regardless of how fantastic the deal might be, until cruising is back up and running successfully for several months.

There is no “normal” cancellation. For the last batch of December cancellations, they refunded cash (for those who paid in cash) and gave them a 10% off  a future cruise.

We are having the same discussion about our March cruise.  I'm thinking of not making final payment and moving the deposit to a 2022 cruise.  DH wants to make final payment and then let NCL cancel the cruise, get the refund and hopefully a 10% off certificate.  We shall see, no crystal ball here.  Lol!

There is no way I would ever ever ever make final payment right now for a March cruise and let NCL keep my cash with the hopes of a 10% off certificate to use later when they they just raise prices 30%. You’re crazy to even consider that ....sorry ......

If you make final payment you could be lending out thousands of dollars at zero interest for nobody really knows how long and lending it to a company that may go under.  Why would anyone do this???  To get 10 percent off a highly questionable product who's price is completely controlled by offering company . . . someday . . . maybe . . . if everything works out and you live long enough?

The virus is still spiraling up  and hasn't come close to peaking for the winter.  Tennessee today announced that from the usual 1700 or so new cases a day we've been seeing, today's new cases are 4,300 and increasing each day.  There is no way a cruise will be sailing in just three months.   My opinion.

We had the Encore cruise on April 10th. Decided to cancel/shift to a cruise on the Encore. Leaves Seattle 23 October 2022. Easier for us. Do not have to fly to and from a port. Just from Miami. I did not want to be constrained by the FCC rules. Just have to wait.

My cruise is scheduled for end of January. In a little different situation than you are. This was paid primarily with FCC from a March 2020 cruise. I now wish I had taken the cash refund rather than be drawn in by the 125% credit option - promo I booked also offered 20% off, some OBC and double points. Am bummed now, know I will not be on this cruise even if by some chance it actually goes - just won't feel comfortable on one of the first sailings, and know from looking at the costs and promos now that I will never get the deal I had. I still had a final payment due of $100, but rather than put out more money I called and eliminated the perks so no longer owe anything on it. I did check with my PCC and he said that their was really no benefit for me to cancel the cruise on my own, better off to wait for them to cancel at this point and see if they offer any discount. I can still cancel by late December if need to.

If you have the option to take the cash - do it. IMO, once things get up and going again watch the promos if you want a deal. Not having your money tied up is worth a lot. Who knows if the cruise experience of the future will even be similar to what we all love about cruising.

Probably a lot of us that have a cruise booked and paid for using FCC from a canceled cruise earlier this year. I had a July Alaska  cruise that canceled after I made final payment, so ya, that 125% FCC plus the 20% added if you booked right away thing, double points and OBC was pretty sweet. So I did rebook Alaska, fortunately I booked for July 2022. Hoping cruising will be back healthy and strong by then.

I too, have a Feb 21, 2021 cruise that no doubt will not happen. However, the 10% off of a future cruise isn't a big enough carrot for me to make final payment on it if NCL doesn't cancel prior to that date.  Take care all.

Thanks for your advice... we have $500 down and no FCC or anything else. I need to check and see what I lose if I cancel (had insurance so it might be the cost of the insurance).  Haven't made any other payments because of the corona cr@p. Don't have to make a payment until 12/20 (final) so it might be moot by that time. Dang I hate this.

We had a fully paid cruise in March that was cancelled one week before sailing, did not take any future credit and now am very happy.  I feel for those who have FCC expiring before they can be used... I wonder if that will end up with class-action lawsuit for offering something that cannot be used before it expires.

We had 3/37/21 booked through the casino, moved it to 3/30/22 and got comped a better room so you may luck out.

Am so glad I logged in and am reading the topic re cruise cancellation.  I have a Baltic cruise (the Escape) re-booked for June 2021.  I want to totally cancel this cruise and get a refund - not a cruise credit.  My inner feeling is that there is no way the cruise is doable because of all the countries where the ship will port may still have virus quarantines...vaccine or no vaccine.  I was supposed to make final payment Feb 2021 but received an email from Norwegian just yesterday stating that I can cancel up to 60 days before sailing (~April?) and they would give me future cruise credit.  Did Norwegian give any of you a "hard time" asking for a total refund instead of a future cruise credit?  I was paying for a combination of cruise costs, air fare and lodging in Copenhagen post cruise:  a hefty chunk of change.  I'm on the downhill side of 70 and, of course, life is not guaranteed.  Please advise.

Is this a rebook using FCC from a canceled cruise. If it is you are are only going to get FCC back, not a refund. I have heard of isolated cases getting the refund after FCC, but it is rare. If they cancel and it was not an FCC cruise they offer a cash refund - seems you have to search for it in the fine print. LOL

For what it's worth, my wife and I had a cruise booked on NCL for January 3, 2021, and our final payment date was on or about November 5. Seeing as how NCL suspended all cruises until December 31, we thought it highly unlikely that our cruise would sail, so we cancelled and got both our deposit and CN certificates refunded. We will certainly sail with them once they resume operations.

That’s some six months away, that cruise has a very intense schedule, most countries on the trip I think will be Covid-19 relaxed by then, but it’s your decision.

I agree I wish I would have taken the refund back in March for my April cruise. I have a January cruise scheduled I am sure it will be cancelled The prices to rebook this same cruise are much higher solo cabin is over 1700 that is 600 more than I originally paid for the same cruise.

Many thanks, fellow cruisers.  I'm going to try to get a full refund from Norwegian.  Will send an email to the NCL booking agent with this request so therein I will have created a "paper trail" for the refund.  I honestly don't think an FCC would work for my friend and I as we are both very senior in age; fortunately we are still in good health but don't want be held hostage by NCL.  Will try to let you know the outcome.  It's a topsy-turvy world, huh???

Just got an email and all cruises thru the end of Feb. and certain ships thru the end or March are cancelled.  Full refund will be sent to original payment form. So dang! I wanted to go but at least all deposit plus the 10% "coupon" for future cruises....
