I thought the same - crew. Put some crew members on the Sky that have been through a sailing with the new protocols. Makes sense. If that's the case, I would expect that the Jupiter will inherit crew from the Sky.

Now, my experience in shipping under my own pilotage is small (envision a 20 ft. runabout, 20 ft. tritoon, waverunner, all on a local lake/river) but that seems an expensive way to move crew around at first blush!  Unless it is in the hundreds, which it could well be!

So looking forward to this trip!

Peace!

I am asking anyone who has made Spa reservations can they still see them on their MVJ calendar? I thought they were there but they're not there now. Did Viking chat and agent could not access Spa reservation info to confirm. Said to confirm onboard. Meanwhile all times for all days booked.

I just checked and our two Spa treatments are no longer on our calendar.

Just did a live chat and was told the website is undergoing maintenance which might affect MVJ. He then reminded me that I have to check in at the spa to confirm reservations once on board anyway. Hmmm...hopefully didn't lose them as they were hard to book!

Spa question… have you been able to book times to use the spa facilities on line?  Not a massage or spa treatment, but I read that reservations were needed to use the hydropool, sauna, etc. Anyone know when/how/where we can do this?

Are your other reservations still there? Just check and all ours are.

Yes the only thing that was dropped were the two spa appointments.  Everything else has been unchanged (so far) .

That's kind of going to Reykjavik from Skagen by the scenic route isn't it?  Surprised it is going south of the UK to get there.

Definitely more scenic, but I'll bet the Bridge Team would prefer the original orders, which avoided the English Channel & Approaches. Always a challenging navigation, even with GPS these days.

If boarding crew, they can be limited in the countries and ports that will accept crew changes and even newly arriving crew. Throughout the pandemic, as a seafaring nation, UK has looked after mariners.

When Viking shut down operations last year, many of the ships stopped in Portsmouth to sign-off crew and ship them home via LHR.

Might be the ship to ship transfer can be done within the confines of the "Viking Bubble" avoiding a quarantine. Viking Venus is also headed for Portsmouth, unfortunately Marine Traffic AIS has it to Portsmouth NH, probably doing about 80knts. Hope they did better with the autopilot 😊.

The Bridge Team have selected the wrong Portsmouth every cruise. Probably the 3rd Officer or Cadet who set up the AIS, but they should still know better.

Not the Bridge Team's error. Apps (other than Marine Traffic) using AIS show Portsmouth, UK.

VESSELFINDER:: "The vessel is en route to PORTSMOUTH,UK, sailing at a speed of 6.6 knots and expected to arrive there on Jun 18, 20:00."

CRUISEMAPPER: Viking Venus...en route to PORTSMOUTH, UK.

Maybe the same person who worked out the FX conversion rates for our ShoreX.

However, I will own up to ordering a hire car from Melbourne airport in Florida rather than Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. As I departed my flight from Sydney I was not too pleased that my hire car was not ready and waiting for me, until the guy on the desk pointed out my error with a wry smile and said I was not the first to make this mistake nor would I be the last!

Too Funny!  Melbourne, FL is my local airport (20 minutes away) and I do that all the time, but it's in reverse. 🤪

Here’s a fun article about the Icelandic phone book and their naming conventions. From the article:

In addition to the jovial first-name basis, we operate on a system of patronyms, meaning that you take your father's first name and simply add the suffix -son [if you're a boy] or -dóttir [if you're a girl]. Björk Gudmundsdóttir is the daughter of Gudmundur. Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson is the son of Grímur. And so on.

A dental specialist my spouse went to made local news here by flying to Grenada in the Caribbean instead of Granada, Spain for sightseeing/dental conference. Someone else had made his reservation, and the dentist didn't know anything was wrong until the plane took off and there was an announcement of flying time.  Ouch!
