Port Fees Calculation?

 Share

Recommended Posts

Just noticed the port fees for Adventure 5/31/22 4 day out of Cape Liberty, stopping only in Halifax on Thursday, 6/2/22, are $151.27 pp.  The previous 5 day out of Cape Liberty 5/26 to 5/31/22 stops at Bar Harbor, Maine, on Saturday and Halifax on Sunday.  The Port Fees for that cruise are $144.88.  It would appear that Bar Harbour is paying Royal Caribbean $6.39 pp to dock there.  Are the port fees that more expensive in Halifax on a Thursday than on a Sunday?  Inquiring minds want to know.

I dont understand how you figure bar harbour is paying rcl the difference between the old and new port fees and taxes. All my port fees have gone up, so how would anyone know which port went up how much.

So you are saying the Halifax fee increased between 5/29/22 and 6/2/22 by $6.39 pp plus the pp fee for Bar Harbour?

Try another itinerary and see what you get in T&Fs.😄

It is entirely possible that the Halifax port's fiscal year ends on 5/31, and the new fiscal year (and new port budget and revenue projections) is the reason for the change. Bar harbor is a tender port, and how they calculate port fees for tender ports may be significantly different than a port where the ship actually ties up at the dock.

Or, it could be just the phase of the moon😉

I wouldn't even try to figure it out... we did a L&S from 2020 to 2021 and port fees stayed same.... that cruise then "experienced some minor changes for our added enjoyment" which changed every single port of call........ and the port fees stayed the exact same.

I do wonder if Port Fees/Taxes are actually a true representation of what is actually paid by RCI- the cynic in me wonders if it’s a hidden extra element of profit.

According to the Halifax Port Authority website, they charged $11.50/passenger in 2021 plus a fee per gross ton of the ship, plus a fee for electric, water, and a few other things. Bar Harbor charges $2.37/passenger for tendered ships.

My cruise from Cape Liberty on 6/5/22 stops in both Halifax NS and Saint John NB.  Our port fees are $133.85 per person 🙄

If profit, then why have I gotten refunds of T&F many times in the past.

Makes no sense to me why the port fee is $6.39 less when docking at 2 ports vs. docking at 1 port.

Maybe the dock fee does change for a Sunday vs. a Thursday.

It's the Oasis so now I'm even more confused

I noticed that, figured it is more for the bigger ship in total, but winds up being less pp because it is about 5,600 people vs about 3,000 people.

It seems incalculable - a redeployment cancelled a stop in Skagway for us an port fees only reduced by $25 for 2 pax.......
