imola Posted April 30, 2021 #1 Share Posted April 30, 2021 Looks like maybe we could be sailing late July after all. Now I have to reserve a pre-cruise hotel. I have a few picked out. I was hoping someone who lives there or has stayed in any of these could give me opinions. Beachfront Palms, BW Seawall Inn, Mariner Inn, Country Inn & Suites and Casa Del Mar Beachfront. We stayed at the Galvez many years ago. One other one but cant remember that name.

Barsnikel Posted May 18, 2021 #5 Share Posted May 18, 2021 (edited) We have stayed at the Country Inn and Suites many times. We always enjoyed it.... but having said that, we have not been there for several years, so I cannot say if it has maintained the quality it had before. They always allowed us to park for free during our cruise. There are a few other hotels that do that as well. One thing I will stress about Galveston hotels... prices fluctuate widely, depending upon activities in the area. We have stayed for $69/night (senior rate) and then for the same exact room been quoted $250/night, simply because there was something taking place. Also, there is a huge price difference between summer rates and winter rates.... (don't book a reservation in the summer for a winter cruise) Edited May 18, 2021 by Barsnikel

On another thread, a poster mentioned it was far cheaper and a greater selection of better hotels to stay overnight at a Houston. Never considered this good idea, and then I suggest people take the Hobby/Cruise Shuttle or a Taxi.

CruisingCanucksTwo Posted May 19, 2021 #9 Share Posted May 19, 2021 Hotels in Houston are WAY cheaper than Galveston. We have done it both ways - stayed for cheap in Houston and shuttled into the port. Another time we rented a car and drove to Galveston and stayed a few miles southwest of town. There's a Holiday Inn Club Vacations out of town that is right on the ocean and a little lower priced then staying right in town. You'd need to drive or cab in from that hotel to the port though. sushitex Posted June 1, 2021 #11 Share Posted June 1, 2021 Last Thursday, Carnival Cruise Lines unexpectedly sent hubby a casino offer forJuly and August sailings out of TX, FL, and Alaska, and we couldn’t resist booking a mid-July cruise on the Vista, going out of Galveston. Having previously stayed a few nights in Galveston hotels for late fall and winter cruises, I was shocked at the prices that this summer is commanding, from lower budget to luxury venues. Fortunately, our credit card rewards program was able to provide us with a free night at a decently rated hotel - not fancy, but clean, anyway. Because we live in TX and can drive to Galveston in @3.5 hours, we usually look for places that offer free cruise parking and perhaps a free ride to the cruise terminals. Our favorite place so far has been Gaido’s Seaside Inn - an older, “classic” place that offers the free parking and a ride to the terminal ( when cruises will resume, they said, they will offer the same.) Not luxurious, but clean and the food at Niko’s is tasty and comes from the same kitchen as the famous Gaido’s Seafood Restaurant. They also have a free breakfast, including homemade breakfast burritos. The hotel sits across the street from the sea wall, so some rooms face the Gulf. There’s also a nice-looking pool. However, to stay at the motel during July requires a 2-night stay on the weekends, and rates are significantly more than the fall or winter, just like all the other places. Another find for cruisers who drive in is the Scottish Inn. Not fancy, but it is clean and offers free cruise parking and a ride to the cruise ports on weekends. Yep, more expensive in the summer as well. I have this hotel booked for our end- of- August cruise; I hope that we have enough time to catch the free ferry boat that’s nearby ( to dolphin watch .) We missed doing this during our first stay there.

She is going to handle hotel so I will pass this along. They live in TX so will be picking us up at the airport and providing all transportation. We are very lucky.
