Thank you for the Daily, Rich.

If Moscato is the wine, i have had Moscato d’Asti, a very nice dessert wine.

I was on a cruise that made a stop in Porto, only not to leave the ship due to heavy rains.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all who are mothers and who mother in one form or another!  God Bless us all!

Not sure yet what dinner will be but steak and potatoes sounds easy enough and may end up being on the menu.

Prayers for all on the cares list and a shout out to all who are celebrating.

Have a great day today, especially to all the Mothers.

God bless!

Good morning all! And Happy Mother’s Day!

The drink of the day is quite appropriate this morning as we are in the middle of a thunderstorm. I am a steak lover, but I would skip the chimichurri, maybe some onions and mushrooms braised in butter instead. The wine sounds like it would fit very well with my dinner today (ordered in from Coopershawk Restaurant) which includes Parmesan-crusted beef medallions along with some pistachio-crusted grouper for the pescatarians (and a bottle of both a red and a white wine to go along).

My yard is home to all sorts of birds and my favorite mini lilac bush was gorgeous this year, loaded with blooms and so fragrant I could smell them from my bedroom window. Moscato is iffy, can be too sweet sometimes.

Haven’t been to Portugal, love the pictures! Does anyone else ever look at the strangers that you accidentally captured on film and wonder about them?

Prayers to all those on our list 🙏 today for care and healing. And as I raise a glass (or two) this afternoon 🍷I’ll be celebrating with all of you.

Good morning, thanks for the Daily!  Happy Mother's Day to all mothers out there, whether you're a mother to a people baby or a fur baby, or if you're a person of any gender performing the duties of a mother, I wish you a wonderful day ahead.

DH enjoys Moscato . . . not for me, too sweet.  We love listening to the songs of different birds as they make their way to the far north - it's interesting to try to figure out where they are in the trees around us.  I love the scent of fresh lilacs, but as hard as they try, air freshener companies just don't seem to get it right.    What a great quote - one we should all aspire to.

Rather than gather with the throngs of people at the greenhouses on Mother's Day, DH and I went off yesterday and visited several, picking up many baskets of annuals which will be transplanted into various containers around our yard.  For now they reside on our deck, and because night time temperatures are still below freezing, we bring everything into the house where our kitchen and dining room become a riot of colour.

When we got home from our greenhouse tour, we learned a friend of ours had fallen and broken her humerus - ugh.  She lives alone, so we quickly put together a large platter of sausage, cheese, pickles, crackers, fruit and nuts and took everything over to her.  We wanted her to have something she could munch on that only took 1 hand, so included some fancy party picks, etc.  Thankfully her son would be coming later that night to stay with her for a few days to provide some assistance.

@StLouisCruisers such good news about your sister; hopefully she will have an uneventful recovery.

Steak and potatoes are a good basic menu, but we've never quite managed to cook a good steak between the two of us, so DH will be ordering in dinner from our favourite Italian restaurant.  We're still in our household bubble, so it will be just the two of us enjoying dinner on our deck tonight.  And wine.  And probably Aperol Spritzes.  LOL

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do.  Extra prayers for Roy.  Raising the glasses to celebrate all on our happy list.  Stay well, be safe, wash your hands and wear your mask(s), and get your jabs!

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Good Morning Everyone, thanks for the daily report.  The kids let me sleep in again until 6, very unusual.  Yesterday a local group was selling plants to raise money to beautify the town.  We walked up and bought a few and I got them in the ground.  This morning is much nicer so I put on the second coat on the planters.  I hope to do some more yard work after I run to the pet store.

Happy Mother’s Day!

A beautiful morning to sit out and listen to the birds. It rained last night and everything looks so fresh and clean. I have been leaving some veggies out for our resident bunny who is really growing and he's out eating carrots and celery now.

Today we're having steaks, baked potatoes and a gigantic salad.

Happy Mother’s Day from a grey and rainy southwestern Ontario. We will have a quiet day with just dh and myself since we are still under a stay at home order but the text messages with good wishes have been flying back and forth.

During our cruise aboard the Amsterdam two years ago, DW and I spent one day in Porto.  Without doubt, we would have enjoyed spending several days exploring this city.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Thanks to all who contribute to this thread…it’s informative, entertaining and caring.  Healing to those on the care list and cheers to those on the celebratory list.

Interesting that Porto is the Port of the Day – we closed our evening out last night enjoying a glass of Offley Late Bottled Vintage Port (2015) while sitting on our brand new lanai furniture under the stars.

In November, 2012, we took an “Immersive Wine Cruise” on Celebrity Constellation followed by a TA.  The wine cruise was round trip Southampton with stops in LeHavre (overnight), LeVerdon-sur-Mer (overnight), Bilbao, Vigo, and Porto.

In Porto, we and another couple hired a private guide.  It was a wonderful, full-day, tour.

We also toured places already shown here such as the cathedrals, churches and train station so won't post my pictures.

Good morning everyone and Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers out there. I’m happy to be mom to two daughters and one son and mama to five grandsons. I was supposed to be mema , but my oldest grandson got confused between mommy and mema, so I became mama. I never cared what they called me as long as I was part of their lives.

DH always plants our patio with beautiful flowers on Mother’s Day and we plant sunflowers with grandson Matthew for his mother who died back in 2015 when he was nine years old. Matthew was one of 16 finalists in the technology high school contest for all of Philadelphia , but unfortunately he didn’t come in first, second, or third. He was disappointed, but the only 9 th grader so there’s always next year. The kids were all coders and had created their own very creative programs. Last year, he made a program that was outside his school where kids could report bullying anonymously.

We had steak and sweet potatoes last night but we’re going to my daughter for dinner tonight and will eat whatever she makes. Moscato is one of the few wines I like because it’s sweet.

Stay safe everyone and have a great day honoring all the moms.

Carol

Happy Mother's Day!!  A quick post with the drink.  Will come back later to get caught up.

Dark and Stormy:

A Dark ’n’ Stormy is a highball cocktail made with dark rum and ginger beer served over ice and garnished with a slice of lime. Lime juice and simple syrup are also frequently added. This drink is very similar to the Moscow mule except that the Dark 'n' Stormy has dark rum instead of vodka. Wikipedia
Ingredients: 2 oz Dark Rum, 3 1/3 oz Ginger Beer, Couple dashes of bitters
Preparation: In a highball glass filled with ice, add dark rum and top with ginger beer. Garnish with lime wedge.
Served: On the rocks; poured over ice
Standard garnish: Lime wedge
Drinkware: Highball glass

@St. Louis SalI looked up your restaurant for your dinner tonight and see one in Town and Country.  Do you live in that general vicinity?  I lived a short distance away in Manderleigh of Town and Country for 8 years, then moved to a villa in Sappington in South County for 7 years.  The Manderleigh home built by Miceli Custom Homes was my favorite home ever.  We headed down south after DH's retirement to find a retirement home and ended up here in Georgia.

Happy Mother’s Day! Rich, you have outdone yourself with the collection of days. I have no Muscato at the moment, but enjoy a good one. Our migrating birds are all back and singing in the sunshine. And many of the houses around here are fragrant with lilacs on the front lawn. The quote from Thoreau is inspiring. The meal and the wine sound delicious, and I’ve always been partial to Dark and Stormies. The port pictures are very enjoyable, although I’ve never been.

Yesterday DH bought me a large covered roasting pan at a thrift store, so I can finally do some botanical printing here. This morning I am going out to pick some fresh spring maple leaves and print my first fresh print silk scarf of the season. I have some lovely scarf blanks to work on, a very much appreciated and sanity saving gift from a friend.😉

@StLouisCruisers I’m so glad to hear your DS is out of the ICU. Now that’s a real Mother’s Day gift for the whole family!

DH is making breakfast this morning, so the smell of bacon is luring me away from you all.

Happy Sunday, and enjoy this wonderful day!

Happy Mother's Day to all!

Mitzi requested Quiche for dinner so I'm off to scour the cookbooks. Niall and Emilee will be over around 4 and I think they are bringing a couple of garden plants for Mitzi. I had mentioned that she was missing having lilacs so we will see if they were listening!

Since it is Lilac Sunday, here is a Korean lilac from our old house in Maplewood, MN. They stay fairly compact and I think we could squeeze one (or two) into the gardens at the new place.

There is a peony and an iris peeking around from behind.

@kb4683your Porto photos are great!  I love the interior shot of the bookstore.  Wow!  You don't see a bookstore like that everyday do you?  Thank you for posting them.

Thank you.  You are so right, it was an absolutely amazing bookstore.  If you ever get back to Porto, a visit is recommended.  Only one problem, they prohibit photography but I didn't see the sign before I was caught "red-handed" 🤭.  The lady didn't make me erase the photo, but I did buy their book on the history of the place.😇

Our guide took us on a walk and left us to enjoy a gorgeous church and a bite and explore and told us the short cut back to our meeting place for our transfer back.

So, of course, we had to savour the flavour.  The food was delicious.  A couple of the dishes:

There are a lot more pics but I think that’s probably too many already.

I’d happily return here again.

Thanks for the pictures of all that I missed that day.  It was my birthday and I was sick with bronchitis and stayed on the ship.  My excursion that day was a visit to the ship's medical dept. Hopefully I will get there again.

Wow! We have a trio of painted buntings at our platform feeder! I've never seen one in my life and have now been blessed with 5 so far. I hope they are nesting nearby and come to visit often!

I love lilacs. They remind me of my mom and my childhood. We had huge lilac bushes and they were right outside my bedroom window. Will never forget the lovely scent. Today would also have been my mom's 94th birthday.

@kb4683 beautiful photos and the fish looked delicious! Thanks for posting.
